N.C. State football staff observes Duke's spring practice

Bookmark and Share

DURHAM - N.C. State football coach Tom O'Brien and his staff observed Duke's spring practice on Monday morning.

Duke coach David Cutcliffe said that since the teams do not face each other for the next three seasons (in 2013) that they could welcome in the State staff.

"It's not often that you get to watch another team's practice," Cutcliffe said. "So we agreed to swap out a day to watch each other work. That's really all it was, end of story."

Cutcliffe, who enters his third season at Duke, said his staff will attend an N.C. State practice when they start this spring.

They should play anyway

State and Duke could play each other in a NON-CONFERENCE game. It wouldn't count in the conference records or anything. But they could still play. I'd rather play Duke than some of those podunk teams that we play every year.

Good idea

I wonder if there is some NCAA or ACC rule against doing that though. It wouldn't surprise me if there was.

Most likely

As it would result in an unbalanced number of ACC games compared to the rest of the conf. That is, I don't see how it would not count. Perhaps a secret 2:00 a.m. game and don't tell anyone?

WULFPECKERS GO TO DUKE TO LEARN ABOUT FOOTBALL???

NOW THAT SHOWS U WHAT THE ACC THINKS ABOUT DUKE FB, ON THE RISE, BIG TIME!  , GO DUKE!!!

Hmm

Guess you missed the part where Coach Cut is also going to be watching NC State's spring practices, too. I think this is a pretty cool show of sportsmanship.

And I seriously doubt TOB would lose any sleep if he wasn't allowed to observe Duke's practices. LOL

I like it.

Maybe madmax, Heels20 and LetsGoPitt can provide in-game updates, since they are oftentimes up and posting in the wee hours of the morning.

Come to think of it, that would be the most original combination of football commentators since Keith Jackson, Don Meredith and Howard Cosell started MNF.

From what I understand...

... it's allowable. It's hard to grasp this idea, but the game would be considered a NON-CONFERENCE game, not an ACC game. It would only count in the overall record, not the conference record. It would not cause an imbalanced ACC record.

The idea has been floated before, I think back when the league expanded and we learned that we wouldn't be playing Duke every year.

Think about...

When all this conference shuffle is finished, and there's a conference with 14 teams. Conference rivalries are becoming extinct like dinosaurs. Sure, you can count on one or two, but traditional games are being lost at an alarming rate around college football.

Besides

What is TOB going to learn? I"m with Yarpack on the "D" issue on this one. BTW...has anyone noticed that Renner is playing baseball this season??? shades of Wilson....Wilson...Wilson.....

yard-sax!!

U ARE OLD FASHIONED, OK, GO DUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UNTRUECAT!!!!!

FUNNY DUEK HAS ONLY BEATEN STATE IN FOOTBALL ONCE SINCE 1994 MAYBE THEY SHOULD DROP UR SCHOOL AND ADD THE RICHMOND SPIDERS TO THE ACC SINCE THEY BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF YOU TWICE OK GO STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ones bad enough

but two of you?  c'mon.  it's gonna keep people from posting and maybe drive away some others.

It's good for the moment...

...but I have a feeling that if "it" does not resign soon, the failed attempt to dispatch the troll will be recognized and we will no longer see any more of redcat Wink

holes-20!!

a-gator-redpussycat-69 is trying so hard to immulate me because u see i am really his hero, he wants to learn how a pro post, but as u see he has got a ways to go. go duke!!!!

I think

1998 fessed.

Believe me...

I'm hesitant to post thinking someone may follow it with incoherent All Caps dribble. I'll not imitate such genius.

Oooh trust me, he didn't.

Oooh trust me, he didn't.  We'll just have to use a semi-extensive vocabulary in order to maintain a comprehensive, yet subtle conversation in which only those of us with brains compiled of something more than fecal matter can keep up.  Catch my drift?

OR

Just indulge in posting after "nighty night" time ( aka 10:00 or before 2:30 pm sans holidays ) Let FREEDOM RING....Its all wishful thinking of course....I stick to my plan to ignore " it"

UNC-98-AKA LOSER!!!

i thought we were BIG buddies, now that u are a "BIG DUKE FAN". u really look "CUTE" IN YOUR BLUEDEVIL TIGHTS, there are 3 sure things in life, death, taxes, and u dont have the ability to ignore me, ok, go duke!!!

so be it

just know it will not work, Heels20! Sealed

although, it is annoying the piss out of him I see in the other thread.  I'm almost flattered he thinks it is me!

Out the window

Well, there goes any chance for the dubious, "Best in the State" moniker, for these two teams for the next five years. Unless, of course, they were to meet in the ACC Championship game.

Not necessarily

Maybe they can scrimmage and keep score.

Five Years!

Two Tobacco Road schools that won't play each other for five years!!??

I wish we still had a 10-team conference.

Whoa

Exactly right, dubious. These two universities won't play each other for five years!?

Don't get me wrong, after the onslaught of dink and dunk passes Duke lit NCSU up with last fall, combined with the Pack's grand display on the inability to tackle, I wouldn't feel great about State's chances in that matchup for 2010 were it on the schedule. It's just strange these two schools won't play for 5 years. Call me old fashioned.

I believe

its 3 years, but that is incredibly weird....as it is. Big four should play every year as far as I am concerned...J. Swofford what kind of shrooms are you on. Where is Greedbuster when you need him.
