The Meineke Car Care Bowl will announce Tuesday evening that it has sold out the Dec. 27 meeting between North Carolina (8-4) and West Virginia (8-4) at Bank of American Stadium in Charlotte.

This will be the third sellout for the bowl, which played its inaugural game in 2002.

Bowl executive director Will Webb said the sellout will reflect well on Charlotte in a season when many bowls are expected to face dwindling attendance because of the struggling economy.

“We just are very excited for the city of Charlotte,” bowl executive director Will Webb said.

This year’s teams were involved in the bowl’s two previous sellouts. West Virginia played in Charlotte’s first bowl game in 2002, and North Carolina helped sell out the 2004 game against Boston College.
