CHAPEL HILL -- North Carolina reserve guard Leslie McDonald will not play in tonight’s game against Clemson in the Smith Center, the school  announced about an hour before the 8 o’clock start.

McDonald, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, was injured in Sunday’s 78-58 loss at Georgia Tech. He suffered a bruised back and practiced Monday, but was ruled out of Tuesday’s game as precautionary measure.

McDonald had played in all 17 previous games this season, averaging 7.7 points. It is still unclear whether coach Roy Williams will make a change in the starting backcourt; he could insert freshman point guard Kendall Marshall, pairing him with current starting ballhandler Larry Drew II, or starting shooting guard Dexter Strickland.

Forward John Henson, who also suffered a spill at Atlanta, is expected to play against the Tigers.

The Tar Heels are 54-0 at home all-time against the Tigers.
