Quarterback Robert Marve officially severed his ties today with Miami, and the once prized recruit left with a parting shot for Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon.
This afternoon's announcement from Miami that Marve had requested a release from his scholarship had been widely expected for several weeks.
Although Marve started 11 of 13 games this season, the redshirt freshman was suspended twice for a pair of unrelated incidents. One of those kept him out of the Hurricanes' Emerald Bowl loss.
In an interview with The Associated Press today, Marve indicated his decision was not directly tied to Miami's firing of offensive coordinator Patrick Nix, although the two were close.
"I had to get out," Marve told The AP. "I just decided that I can't play for Coach Shannon."
