Marques Johnson to leave N.C. State

Bookmark and Share

Point guard Marques Johnson has decided to transfer from N.C. State the school announced Wednesday.

“Marques felt it would be in his best interest to take advantage of an opportunity somewhere else,” coach Sidney Lowe said in a statement. “He definitely has handled himself with as much class as anybody that I’ve been around since he has been at N.C. State."

Johnson transferred to N.C. State from Tennessee in the spring of 2007 and averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 assists in 21 games last season, making six starts. He would have faced intense competition for playing time this season with Farnold Degand returning from knee surgery, Javier Gonzalez back for his sophomore season and Julius Mays joining the team as a freshman.
