Lowe on Painter, Wall, schedule

Bookmark and Share

Notes from Sidney Lowe's press conference on Thursday:

• The Wolfpack went 1-for-2 in the late recruiting period, landing forward DeShawn Painter but losing out on point guard John Wall.

Painter, a 6-9 power forward, orginally signed with Florida but was released from his LOI and chose the Wolfpack in May. Lowe called Painter's decision a "great break."

"It's a great opportunity to get in on a player like that so late," Lowe said.

As for the difference between Painter and Richard Howell, a fellow incoming freshman forward, Lowe said Painter was "longer and bouncier."

"Richard can face up and shoot it a little better," Lowe added.

And missing out on Wall, after being one of the first coaches to pursue the Raleigh product, Lowe said he only wishes Wall the best of luck.

"I hate that he had to go through certain things, but he'll be fine," Lowe said. "He's a good young man."

State's freshmen class is rated 13th nationally by Scout.com but you can't help but wonder what could have been. The Pack was a finalist for forward Derrick Favors (No. 1 overall), Wall (No. 2) and forward DeMarcus Cousins (No. 3).

Favors chose Georgia Tech over State while Kentucky, and first-year coach John Calipari, wound up with both Wall and Cousins.

• The Wolfpack will make nonconference trips to Marquette and Arizona this season and gets a preview of the Greensboro Coliseum, the site of the 2010 ACC Tournament, with a "road" game against UNC-Greensboro.

State also has a return home game with Florida, after visiting the Gators last season.

Nowadays the original

Nowadays the original painters are seen very rarely. We can see the examples of Santa Rosa painter are also good but there is no one here who knows the value of real art.

Favors

Is a moron for going to GT. We were never going to get Wall or Cousins.

In the hunt

Too bad Sid couldn't land at least one of the three that got away, but at least State was in the hunt for them. If this incoming class turns out to be a good as advertised, it will just breed more recruiting success and improve the chances of landing top prospects. Still, this is a good class that doesn't include any obvious one-and-dones, another positive.

There was one comment Sid made at the press conference that caught my attention. He said that for the first time there were guys in the gym and in the weight room at 6:30 working out on their own. That speaks well of the current players, but says as much about the guys that are gone.

I can't shake the feeling that last year's team had at least one upperclassmen (Costner) that was a problem in the locker room. Two others were disciplined that I can remember (McCauley and Degand) for unspecified reasons. These are the guys that should be leading by word and example.

My hope is that true leaders will emerge this year and that the team will develop the chemistry needed to have a successful season. And, as long as we are dreaming, do well enough to get everyone off Sid's back.

convenient to hire

It is much more convenient to hire a painting contractor. By hiring a professional, you will get a higher quality paint job, as opposed to a do-it-yourself project. It can be very difficult finding a professional painter whom you can trust to get the job done correctly
