Virginia basketball coach Dave Leitao resigned on Monday, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Leitao led Virginia to the NCAA Tournament and a share of the 2006 ACC regular-season title with the players he inherited from previous coach Pete Gillen. In the two seasons since, the Cavaliers have gone 9-23 in the ACC.
Possible replacement targets for the Cavaliers include Oklahoma's Jeff Capel, Minnesota's Tubby Smith and VCU's Anthony Grant.

How about Bob McKillop from

Leitao Resigns
Mon, 03/16/2009 - 16:58 — RoundballSpankyAl Skinner would be perfect for UVA. UVA should make every effort to lure Al Skinner away from Boston College. Al Skinner would be a perfect match for an academic-oriented university like UVA. Al Skinner is a friend of Rick Pitino! Al Skinner was runner up in this year's ACC Coach-of-the-Year balloting. Did I mention Al Skinner? Al Skinner always exceeds everone's expectations. Can't believe Al Skinner wouldn't be on the short list of top candidates for the UVA job.
Another one bites the dust
Mon, 03/16/2009 - 15:51 — topping241Since Terry Holland left the Head Coaching position at UVA, the UVA Head Coaching position has been a revolving door. The selection of Dave Leitao by Craig Littlepage was a very poor decision as in my opinion he wasn't impressive in his prior position with DePaul University. If Craig Littlepage is smart he would go after Anthony Grant at VCU. Anthony Grant has done a great job at VCU and is recruiting very efficiently for the VCU basketball program.
This action should serve as notice for Sidney Lowe at NC State. I think he has one more year at NC State and if that program doesn't improve, next season will be his last year in Raleigh as well.
Tubby Smith
