Lawson, Ellington: No news on 2009-10

Bookmark and Share

DETROIT - After being part of North Carolina's 89-72 defeat of Michigan State on Monday night in the NCAA championship game, Tar Heel junior guards Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington did not reveal whether they would return next season or leave for the NBA draft.

Lawson said he will consult with coach Roy Williams, and predicted they will both come to the same decision. But Lawson said the decision hasn’t already been made.

We still don’t know what I’m going to do yet,” Lawson said.

Ellington, who was celebrating his Final Four most outstanding player award, said after the game that he wasn't thinking about next season just yet.

But freshman Ed Davis reaffirmed his decision to return to the team next season.

"I'm not ready (for the NBA)," Davis said.

Ok, they go to the NBA

Both are projected to be high lottery picks in this year's draft because it is pretty weak, but we get some fresh talent in next year and MG will be healthy and take over from Lawson so we will be just fine if they go to the NBA. Get that paper and we wish you both the best. Thank you for winning the NC.

cut the strings, Tar Heel fans

We need to let these two guys go without any crap from us. I've never seen two kids, on the same team, play six flawless tournament games the way they did. truly unbelievable! go have a long and prosperous career in the NBA.

Lawson and Ellington should go

Both guys really helped themselves by playing this year. Lawson cemented a lottery draft position, and Ellington - really in the last 2 months locked up a first round pick. I don't think either one helps themselves by staying another year.

I would love to see them all

I would love to see them all return but not for selfish reasons. I would love to see them set an example as Tyler Hansbrough did for someone staying in school. They could start a trend of staying 4 years and tell the NBA to go to ????. The NBA is nothing but a bunch of overpaid egotistical thugs and I wish they would fold.
