Gani Lawal is leaving Georgia Tech for the NBA, the school announced Friday.
The question now is how many teammates will join him?
Freshman forward Derrick Favors and sophomore guard Iman Shumpert are both rumored to be joining Lawal, a junior who led the Jackets in scoring (13.1) and rebounding (8.5).
Since Lawal tested his draft status last spring, he's in the draft for good with Friday's decision.
The Yellow Jackets went 7-9 in the ACC and reached the ACC championship game and the second round of the NCAA tournament. Without Lawal, and possibly Favors — a projected lottery pick — and Shumpert, they're looking at a complete rebuilding project.
Guards Mfon Udofia, Moe Miller, Glen Rice Jr. and Brian Oliver return but the frontcourt could be a complete mystery.
Coach Paul Hewitt is no stranger to losing underclassmen to the NBA. Chris Bosh (2003), Javaris Crittenton and Thad Young (both 2008) left after one season in Atlanta.
