DURHAM — The sellout crowd at Cameron Indoor Stadium got a rare treat on Sunday watching the Blue Devils beat Rhode Island 82-79 in a nailbiter. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski called it a "February game in November" but it was even more special since Duke, winners of 62 straight nonconference home games, rarely schedules nonconference home games that turn into such barnburners.
Krzyzewski also praised the Duke fans for their energy during a game that was undecided until the final buzzer. The kudos came some 12 days after Krzyzewski openly wondered where Duke fans were for a mid-week exhibition game against Lenoir-Rhyne on Nov. 5. I go to school with a bunch of dook undergrads now, and maybe 5% of dook students actually have a working knowledge of ACC ball or any basketball outside of what is handed to them on a sheet to say at the games in Cameron. The "crazies" are only known for their antics because of the setup of the students around the court and the mediocrity that is Cameron Indoor. Oh yeah, I also went to the Bond premiere last Friday at midnight at Southpoint, and a bunch of dookies were there. Needless to say, I wanted to shoot myself at how ugly the girls were and the fact that I had to listen to their conversations about Science Summer Olympiads and anything other than the realm of normal college students.
