Kenan's next phase: east end zone

Bookmark and Share

GREENSBORO — Phase One of UNC's Kenan Stadium renovation — which included adding a fifth floor to the Kenan Football Center, and renovating the other four levels — will be complete within the next few weeks.

Phase Two remains on hold for economic reasons. But when it resumes, coach Butch Davis said, it will likely involve adding club seats and an academic support building to the East end zone instead of the south side of the stadium, which was previously being discussed. The project is still in the planning stages.

"Now, it is almost a unamimous slam dunk that the Board of Trustees and the administration think that the east end zone is the most viable, fastest, quickest way to make an impact in the stadium,'' Davis said. "That we can add club seating, we can ... expand the seating capacity, we can address the issue with the academic support system [space] ... but I think as the economy starts to rebound a little bit, we'll see that get put back on the fast track."

Please...

The last two years your "official" attendance numbers have been decent. Then again we all know how attendance is tracked by the geniuses at UNC. Prior to the last 2 years UNC averaged about 75% capacity. That was with sellouts against Clemson, NCSU, FSU... where 50% of the crowd was the away team.

I was at that freakin' NCSU game...

and it was freakin' cold, and NCSU gave UNC a good beating. The stadium wasn't half full with NCSU fans, though.

50% the away team?

I think you're confusing that with NC State vs ECU.  Shows how loyal your fans are, selling all their tickets to ECU fans.

unc geniuses

willncsu, u are 100% correct, unc has trouble with numbers, if they were lucky enough to get into DUKE they would know how to calcuate numbers, but i guess their grades were not good enough to get into a good university like DUKE, sorry, go DUKE !!!!!

BTW..

Let's not forget to mention Wallace Wade's improvements for the upcoming season. New toilets!

WW

The only time I paid to get into WW was a few years ago at the R. Stones concert. Free tickets abound for the FB games, just look for the guy with the sign that says, "free tickets". Seriously, though, I do like Cutliffe and hope he brings Dook back a bit.

gimme a break

UNC puts more fanny's in seats every weekend than do the Pups.

and do not give us this crap about  the RBC and how many people they "pack" into the arena. if every school's facility held as many people as the RBC Center does, you guys would be down at the bottom. "just the facts Jack!"

We sold out of season

We sold out of season tickets last year and ranked ahead of NC State in average attendance (we were 4th in the conference, while NC State was 5th). What a surprise, a few Wolfpackers running their mouths about something they know nothing about.

I don't keep up with the numbers...

but I've been to every home game for the last couple of seasons. There's been one occasion where it wasn't full. That was a BC game in the rain and the temperature was around 40 degrees. I know it's cool to talk about people dressed as bleechers, but please refer to statistics. Fans love to bust rivals chops, though. I guess that's half the fun. All this aside....I'm ready for football season! Go Heels!

igliigli is a moron...

he posts the same stupid uninformed thing every time. That being said, It is a total wast to expand kenan when they cant flll it up now. Before someone posts stupid something about the RBC building, keep in mind NCSU is top 15 in bball attendance year after year even with the garbage we put on the court. Would be top 10 with a decent team.

aint going to happen

NCSU,will always be a perennial bottom feeder,u need to take up corn hole, i think u would have a HOLE lot more success, ok, go duke!!!!!!!!!!

ahem.....

as for condemned buildings...that's a State government issue..As for Kenan Stadium...that's a private funds issue. I, and anyone else, can spend their money however they please.

sickening

It is sickening that UNC holds classes in condemned buildings but spends millions on a football stadium.
College sports, the biggest taxpayer and student rip-off around.

i agree

until the tarheel fans can prove they can stay inside the stadium for the entire game, i dont see a reason for an expansion of kenan

Good

More aluminum bleachers to look at during home games.  What a waste of money.
