UConn will watch Michigan State and UNC play for the national title on Monday.
The Huskies were on the wrong side of karma. The Huskies had the whole "Yahoo!-we-cheated" thing working against them, Jim Calhoun's defiant "Get-some-facts" taunt that blew up in his face (when Yahoo! got some facts), the continued presence of A.J. "Hot Laptop" Price on the roster and last week's refusal to cut down the nets at the regional final.
The basketball gods were willing to ignore the first three transgressions, but you don't spit in their face by keeping the nets on the rim.
UNC, on the other hand, must be living right. The Tar Heels avoided Syracuse in the South Regional, then Villanova knocked out Pitt and, now, Michigan State was kind enough to send UConn home.
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good (although in this case, the Heels are both).
What a difference a year makes for the Heels. Davidson almost beat Kansas in the regional final but a last-second 3-pointer bounced off the rim. Instead of Davidson (a team UNC beat earlier in the 2007-08 season) in the Final Four, UNC got the Kansas-Ol-Roy circus and a one-way ticket home.
And, oh yeah, UNC beat Michigan State by 35 points earlier this season.
