ACC Now

In defense of Bobby Bowden

Bookmark and Share

Florida State linebacker Dakoda Watson has listened and read all about the controversy swirling around Seminoles’ coach Bobby Bowden and whether the NCAA will force him to relinquish 14 victories due to rules violations.

Bowden has 382 career victories, one fewer than Penn State’s Joe Paterno in the race to be college football’s all-time winningest coach and the loss of 14 wins would end any chance of Bowden eventually overtaking Paterno since the Florida State coach will step down after this season or next.

“Bobby Bowden told me he doesn’t care about those games,” Watson, a former Aiken (S.C.) High star, said. “Even if they take those games, he’s still Bobby Bowden.

“Everybody knows what he did. It may not say it on paper but he’s a legend. Even if they don’t have it on paper anymore, they can’t knock him down.”

Quarterback Christian Ponder also came to the defense of his coach.

“A lot of people think he’s not as involved as he was but he’s still very involved,” Ponder said. “He contributes a lot.

“It would be nice to send him out on a high note at the end of his career.”

ol bobby should have retired about 7 years ago, but as they say money talks, he has to deal with his ego now, he and ol joe at penn st.are in a race to see who dies first,go duke!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobby Bowden

Bobby Bowden certainly is a legend, but one also has to remember that the Criminoles got that name on his watch. No program in the ACC has had more problems with student athletes than FSU. If all the schools in the ACC played as loose with the rules as FSU does they could all be national contenders every year ala FSU.

Bowden is a legend

Bobby Bowden is a legend regardless of the NCAA ruling..his record speaks for itself going all the way back to Samford and WV.

Nuff said,

John Spinally
