N.C. State's football team got a pep talk for Saturday's game with North Carolina from the Holt brothers, Torry and Terrence, after Thursday's morning practice.
"I told them to go get 'em," said Torry Holt, a All-American receiver at N.C. State whose No. 81 jersey is retired by the school.
The brothers took turns talking the team on the practice field, about five minutes each, before coach Tom O'Brien ended practice.
"Hopefully, they'll take some of the things they said to heart and remember them," O'Brien said. "If that makes us play better on Saturday, I'll be happy."
Torry Holt had one of the best individual efforts in the history of the rivalry in 1998, a 37-34 overtime loss. Playing with an injured shoulder, Holt caught nine passes for 180 yards and a touchdown and returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown. Holt, the ACC player of the year in '98, never did beat the Tar Heels.
Terrence Holt, an All-ACC safety for State in 2002, beat UNC twice in his final three seasons.
