Heels handle Quakers

First Look

CHAPEL HILL — Penn trailed by 20 but cut North Carolina's lead to 10 with just under four minutes to play. The top-ranked Tar Heels still avoided a Kentucky-sized embarrassment by beating the Quakers 86-71 at the Smith Center.

Penn stayed close with 11 3-pointers. UNC's usually hyper offense didn't have a lot of pep but only because the Heels couldn't run and live at the free-throw (23-for-33) like they did in the second half.

Freshman Tyler Zeller and Ed Davis performed well without their injured national player of the year. Zeller scored 18 and Davis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

So far, the Heels are coming out even on the injury front. Hansbrough is sitting on the sidelines in civvies and assistant coach C.B. McGrath was absent with an illness, senior guard Bobby Frasor is playing with a bum left ankle.

DVRed this game

Zeller is the real deal.  I swear he looks like Hansbrough on offense!  Davis looked good in spurts.  Wayne is still missing FT's.  Dion loooked good at times.  Drew II looks like Ty pushing the ball.  Danny made a nice move or two with the ball.

BUT EVERYONE needs to get in line and play some defense or we will get bounced out of Ford Field on a saturday night.
