Box score

CHAPEL HILL — Maryland beat UNC in Chapel Hill last January.

It would have taken the Boston Celtics to beat the Tar Heels on Tuesday they way they shot. The Heels hit 16 3-pointers in a 108-91 win over the Terrapins.

Wayne Ellington (34 points, seven 3-pointers), Ty Lawson (21 points, four 3s) and just about anyone in white-and-blue are hitting from the outside while Tyler Hansbrough (24 points) is doing his usual work inside. Although Psycho T has also gotten in on the 3-point act — hitting one for the second straight game.

UNC made 11 of its first 14 3s to sprint to a 60-44 halftime lead. The only problem Roy Williams had with his team is their transition defense. The Terps scored some early fastbreak points by just beating the Heels down the court.

Williams was so peeved about the lack of hustle, he called timeout with 9:55 left in the half. He huddled the team up and then walked out of it without saying a word, at which point Deon Thompson did most of the talking.

It was 33-23 at that point. Thompson's words — or Williams' inactions — spurred the Heels to a 29-10 run.

Gary Williams has had his own problems on Maryland's bench. Given a vote of confidence by Maryland AD Debbie Yow on Monday, Williams is about to go 0-for-2 against the Triangle with a 41-point loss to Duke on the front end of a beatdown sandwich.

Williams has tried to stop the bleeding. He used all of his timeouts by the 8:12 mark in the second half.

Depth problems

This team has the shortest bench of any team since Coach Williams got here. It may not matter if they can stay out of foul trouble, but I have trouble seeing this team in the final four the way it plays defense.

Offense = GREAT! Defense=

Offense = GREAT!
Defense= still sucks..

Go Heels!!

looking good.

no complaints tonight ... so far!

But, you can set your clock to Tyler Hansbrough getting an intentional foul in his favor each game.

JPG, is there a stat on who has the most intentional foul called for a player in one season or career?
