To the delight of a standing-room only crowd at a sports bar near campus, dynamic guard Ryan Harrow signed his national Letter of Intent with N.C. State on Wednesday afternoon.
Wolfpack fans watched highlights of the 25th-ranked high school basketball player in the country on the flat-screen TVs at Sammy's and cheered as he made his commitment official.
"We're going to turn some heads," said Harrow, who's joined in the recruiting class by highly-rated combo guard Lorenzo Brown and forward Luke Cothron."We're going to be one of the best teams in the ACC."
Harrow, at 5-11 and 158 pounds, doesn't cut an imposing physical presence, and he talks with a high-pitched squeak in his voice, but he charmed the room with his wit and personality.
"I'll talk to y'all," the high school senior from Marietta, Ga. told the crowd. "I like the attention."
The frequent target of Harrow's one-liners was fellow top prospect, forward C.J. Leslie of Raleigh, who was one of the 150 or so people in attendance. Leslie, who orginally commited to N.C. State but re-opened his recruiting options last spring, surprised his friend with the visit.
"I know he's going to make the right decision," Harrow said. "He doesn't want to play with another point guard besides me."
Leslie, who's rated 12th in the class of 2010 by Scout.com, said he's not ready to make a decision with N.C. State, Kentucky, Florida, Oregon, Georgia and Connecticut all still on his list.
"This is definitely a plus," Leslie said of Harrow signing with State.
Leslie plays for coach Erasto Hatchett at Word of God in Raleigh. Hatchett, Harrow's brother-in-law, organized the press conference and promoted it on N.C. State's message boards.
"[Ryan] deserves to have his day," Hatchett said. "He has been overlooked for so long."

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 02:29 — mad_maxGood to see that Lowe is bringing in some good talent. And even though the game tonight was a little shaky at times, it was refreshing to see so many new, young faces playing. It seems like only yesterday when Sid came back home and had a 6-man rotation.

I think you have it wrong. If he wanted to be a "soon to be national contender" and "also want an education", then he would have been recruited by and committed to one of the two schools 25 miles west. LOL

Wed, 11/11/2009 - 19:29 — MRCPack17Where do you people from the Hill get your obnoxious and unfounded elitism? Your comments in no way are relevant to this discussion. Go massage your ego on some other entry and let Pack fans have their day.

Is it that hard to read the comment that came right before mine? Or was that one hard to see because of your red sunglasses?
You don't get it.
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 01:55 — MRCPack17What I meant by that statement was that it's kind of pathetic that some Carolina fans get their kicks from belittling developments outside the Hill. I consistently ask myself why some Carolina fans always comment negatively on any developments regarding NC State. Do you guys really get off to reiterating the same mindless stereotypes just to further inflate your egos? Why would you be commenting on this post at all? Ryan Harrow signing his LOI at a bar in Raleigh is in no way related to anything going on "25 miles west" of here so save your breath and comment on how great of a scorer Marcus Ginyard really is. The job comment is entirely irrelevant considering the recent study by Payscale, which indicates that salaries of graduates from both schools are almost identical. (http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/top-us-colleges-graduate-salary-statistics.asp) You never did answer my question about where that obnoxious Carolina elitism comes from...

GoHeels1984 and like posters (I'm not including Heels20 here - agree or not w/ his comments, he usually has reasoned thought and valid points) have serious life issues. Their emotional and intellectual development never made it past adolescence.
Think Beavis and Butthead in baby blue cardigans over a yellow mock turtleneck. Understand the source, and the snarky adolescent comments are easy to ignore.

Thu, 11/12/2009 - 02:19 — Heels20My comment that was actually on this article was a positive one congratulating NC State on Harrow's commitment. He is a speedy PG with excellent vision and the best PG commitment NC State has had in a very very long time.
I'll have to repeat myself again because you're stupid to get it. I WAS RESPONDING TO A PREVIOUS COMMENT FROM AN NC STATE FAN. The obnoxious elitism? Well, it's kind of easy to respond to your insults when we're better than you historically, and currently, in basketball, football, baseball and academics. Our basketball program is easily a top 3 and arguably the greatest historically. Our history in football is not really anything to brag about, but still better than State's and our baseball coach is the 3rd best coach in the country.
So my question for you is why chew me out for making responding to an idiotic comment made by one of your buddies? He brought it upon himself.

Thu, 11/12/2009 - 10:40 — MRCPack17I get your comment I just don't understand why you're commenting in the first place. Gee thanks for your considerate comments regarding Harrow but the thoughtfulness goes out the window when you make moronic comments about post graduate success. Yes I see that you were commenting in "response" to a comment by a State fan but a comment like, "You mean a job on a farm, or a job he'd get laid off from at the age of 40?" is completely inaccurate. This sort of comment goes back to my earlier point of how pathetic some fans are who get their jollies by belittling other schools based on false stereotypes. Thank you for substantiating my suspicions. I guess that adolescence theory does explain some things.

Schools with a higher median starting salary than UNC
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 20:59 — willncsuInteresting...
Georgia Tech 58,900
Duke 56,800
VT 52,900
UVA 52,200
Maryland 51,600
BC 51,500
Clemson 48,300
NC A&T 48,100
NCSU 48,000
Wake 47,400
Still no UNC...
Miami 46,500
Davidson 45,800
UNC Charlotte 44,300
WVU 44,000
UNC 43,300
FYI, I studied Applied Mathematics (MS, BS) and Physics (BS) and I am getting an MBA now. Not Agriculture. I am sure you UNC fans (the ones who went there) studied something completely relevant in the global economy like Geography or Philosophy.
What does starting salary
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 21:10 — Heels20What does starting salary have to do with getting laid off?
Its a risk-reward thing
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 00:41 — willncsuAnd all those UNC journalism grads are not getting layed off? You make more money for going into higher risk industries like engineering and IT. Risk and reward, its a tradeoff but I wouldn't expect a Chapel Hill grad to grasp that concept. You could be like most NCSU grads and go into fields that actually produce something that contributes to the GDP of the country or you can have some liberal arts job or banking job handed to you by daddys friend like most UNC grads. Your choice.

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 00:55 — Heels20Daddy's friend doesn't hand jobs to UNC grads. You actually have to be an intelligent person to get into the University of North Carolina.
I'm sorry, you're right
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 12:15 — Heels20State is not known for agriculture and engineers never get laid off for younger, cheaper labor. Thank you for clearing that up.

PLEASE GIVE ME SOMETHING THAT IS TOUGHER TO RESPOND TO. A national power? He hasn't finished any better than 10th in the ACC over the last 3 years after inheriting a program that went to the NCAA tournament 5 straight years. He finished DEAD LAST in the ACC with a starting line-up of three 5-star recruits, one 4-star and one 3-star.
And before you say anything else about the Heels, please recognize that Sidney is 1-6 against the Carolina blue when wearing his "RED" coat. Maybe he could borrow some "lucky" sunglasses from Chuck Amato.

Well. One thing that cannot be said is that Sid isn't maintaining a good academic standard at State. Hopefully the results on the court will soon mirror the good efforts in the classroom.
