Top 25 basketball prospect Torian Graham has re-opened his college recruiting options.
Graham, a 6-4 guard from Durham, committed to N.C. State in May but has decided to back off his original decision.
"Nothing bad happened at State," said Graham, who's ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the country by ESPN. "I felt like I made my decision too fast and didn't give other colleges a chance to recruit me."
Graham called Kentucky his "favorite" but said he has not received an offer from the Wildcats. Graham said he's also interested in North Carolina and Duke, but has not received offers from either Triangle school.
Graham said he does have an offer from UCLA and that N.C. State remains on his list of options.
"I'm basically open to everyone," Graham said.

Let him go
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 20:53 — lake_jamesIf he's not committed, State should let him go and withdraw their offer.
Hard to argue

Tue, 08/09/2011 - 09:24 — danofncIn all brutal honesty, for a program like NCSU it just isn't prudent to burn the bridges.
Right now, State has offers out to about 7 or 8 different players, and they have (I think) 3 spots available. So, in theory, if 3 of those guys accept, there is no spot left for Graham. Until that happens, though, NCSU would take him back.

Interesting choice. I find
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 16:44 — danofncInteresting choice.
I find it doubtful that he'll end up at State since he decommitted, but I hope he doesn't put all his eggs in the UNC/Duke/Kentucky basket. Those teams can only take so many guys a year, and if he isn't/wasn't on their radar prior to now, he may not end up on it later. He missed most of the summer due to knee surgery.
Sadly, this could very well be the result of adults in his life being in his ear. If so, I hope those adults are his parents.
UNC
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 19:53 — Heels20Can't speak for Duke/Kentucky, but he's been taking visits to UNC since 2010. My guess is he sees his friends like TJ Warren and Isaiah Hicks getting big time offers and is second guessing his decision to make a commitment so early.
Possibly true. Like I
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 20:16 — danofncPossibly true.
Like I said....I hope whoever is in his ear is there for the right reasons. It's really that simple.
Personally, I'd rather be someone's first priority than someone else's backup plan. And I don't say that just because he decommitted from NCSU.
This late in the game (and it is late for basketball recruiting), I wouldn't have stated that I liked so many different schools that I don't have offers from. I would let those schools know I was interested (which I'm sure he's already done), but I wouldn't make it so public.
I wouldn't be shocked to see him end up at whatever school Rodney Purvis eventually chooses.
i'm not trying to argue just to argue
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 20:30 — gvillegatrbut it is not late in basketball recruiting. Especially if you are wanted. He's 13 months away from attending classes. Signing Day hasn't even come upon us yet. Things change all the time on Signing Day and some guys go beyond that point.
The schools that he said
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 21:12 — danofncThe schools that he said he's interested in all have offers out to other shooting guards, I think. Duke has a commitment from another shooting guard, I think.
So, for someone in this year's class without an offer from a school he wants to attend, it's getting late.
Now, is it possible that he has been told to expect an offer if he decides to reopen his commitment? Yes. Is he doing that coach any favors by going on record about his favorites? No.
In basketball, it's much less common for coaches to continue recruiting committed players.

Recruits
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 20:26 — Heels20I think you're getting at something when you say that recruits shouldn't show great interest in so many schools that haven't even offered them. The best thing for these kids to do is listen to all schools, even the programs that aren't as high profile. If you put all of your eggs in one basket and things don't work out the way you planned, then you could find yourself looking back on missed opportunities. Fortunately, I don't think that's the issue with Torian Graham.
My guess for Purvis is that it's between NC State and Missouri. He dropped Louisville when they signed another guard in his class, and his interest level in Kentucky went down after Harrow transferred. If competition at guard is scaring him away, there's no point in him going to Duke. I have a feeling that both Graham and Warren would love to play with Purvis, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's Gottfried's top priority.
Yeah..I don't really have a
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 21:09 — danofncYeah..I don't really have a problem with him reopening his recruitment. I think every kid owes it to himself to make the correct decision, even if there is a misstep or two along the way. Obviously, committing before you're really ready is a misstep. But, for a basketball player especially, realizing you want to explore other options and doing it is better than getting to a school and then transferring out.
Gotta Go +1 On This
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 18:01 — ab3623Without knowing "the back story," I have to say his best chance seems to be at NCSU, if he can really play. Of course, if he can't play, he will bust out at these other schools. As always, I wish only the best for a young person with an opportunity, just hope he makes the best of it.
Recruiting
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 16:10 — YAR8packFigured this kid would wanna look elsewhere before officially signing. He's a high(er) profile recruit with some big names after his skill sets.
How messed up would it be if NCSU lost two PG to UK?
Two Guard?
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 16:27 — HeelsforeverI thought he played the two...
Perhaps
Mon, 08/08/2011 - 18:25 — YAR8packPerhaps he is. Not sure, really. I guess I should have said it would be bad to lose two guards to UK.
