ACC Now

Good start is good sign for Wake

Bookmark and Share

The team to last the longest during the regular season without a loss typically has success in the NCAA Tournament. That's the good news for Wake Forest, which suffered its first defeat on Tuesday to Virignia Tech and was the last team to lose a game this season.

Patrick Stevens, on his D1scourse blog for the Washington Times, broke down the numbers for the last loser, if you will, since 1994. Florida (2006) and UConn (1999) went on to win the national title. Memphis (2008), Illinois (2005) and Utah (1998) each made the title game.

The only team not to make the NCAA field was Clemson in 2007. Duke, the last loser in 2002 and 2003, would have preferred a different ending than the Sweet 16.
