Gaudio believes Wake stars will stay

Bookmark and Share

MIAMI — One small positive note for Wake Forest in the wake of its shocking 84-69 loss to Cleveland State Friday night in the NCAA tourney's first round: head coach Dino Gaudio said early Saturday that he believed Wake would not lose any underclassmen to the NBA this season.

Gaudio said that he had been talking to the players' parents and to his players themselves and that the players "all know they need to come back," although he also said "nothing would shock me."

Underclassmen like James Johnson, Jeff Teague and Al-Farouq Aminu have all been rumored as early NBA entries, although everyone's star but Johnson's has fallen some lately as Wake lost seven of its final 15 games.

If your Chances..

in the draft is favorable in the 1st round then exit the building on a guaranteed contract and don't look back. Your team nucleus is good I would like to see them together for one more year with a better result in the NCAA Tournament. I would say if you make the Final 16 that would be a good reason to exit the college level if you play for Wake Forest. Most college stars don't leave school until they have resume of POY, ALL-American, NCAA Tournament Champion, Score Point Leader in the Nation, Rookie of Year in Conference. That when you enter the draft without an agent to see where rank in those NBA Draft Camps. You end up in the NBADL for at one year. If you got shot it's on you in the NBA.
I just think the USA needs another basketball league close to the ABA like days. Just too much talent out there being waste.

Fake

this team doesnt know how to play team basketball. they'd win more in the NBA than in college. that undersiazed dread locked fool abused you guys last night, wfu.

its one thing to get lit up on lucky three balls all night, its another to continualy get abused in the paint on head moves and blow bys and hustle.

not to worry and my bracket is no where near perfect, but I had Cleveland St ... go check it out somewhere here!

ACC down this year?

Arguable, for sure.

First round NCAA losses:
Clemson (#7 by a Big Ten #10)
BC (#7 by a Pac Ten #10)
WFU (#4 by a mid-major #13)
FSU (#5 by a Big Ten #12)

But, Maryland (#10) did win against #7 (Pac Ten)

Won't matter

Until Dino figures out how to turn all that talent into a cohesive unit, they will continue to underachieve.

Gaudio is a good guy, but I

Gaudio is a good guy, but I think he is way in over his head. He simply got outcoached last night. Those players are as talented as any in the nation and they were not prepared to play, no adjustments were made, especially when Cleveland States 6'5" guard posted up Smith.

I agree that Gaudio needs a strong look at.

by WFU athletic officials. Skip Posser's untimely death pretty much guaranteed WFU's class. I don't see a class of that quality coming again. Also, I concur with an earlier poster who said Gaudio lacks the ability to teach the players to play a team game.

Wake Forest Basketballlllllll

lI hope the players will return for another year and hone their already considerable basketball skills. More is required in the NBA than just bball skills. Now let me say this: All teams in the ACC play with one goal in mind: BEAT CAROLINA! Once that goal is achieved nothing else matters. Where was the Wake Team that beat the TAR HEELS? Cleveland State is no Carolina, but they wasted Wake Forest!!

one goal in mind

TO BEAT CAROLINA!!

It is what I enjoy most about being a Carolina fan!  Our team is relevant and no one else is!

You've got that right!!

every team plays with Carolina on it's mind.

early departures

why would johnson stay if he is a lottery pcik with guaranteed money in the millions. he can sharpen his skills in the nbadl if need be while actually being very well paid for his efforts instead of using his talent to subsidize a millionaire coach. as nice a guy as dino is, i go to see johnson play not dino coach.
