Justin Gainey was hired by Elon on Wednesday.
The popular former Wolfpack point guard, and director of basketball operations for Sidney Lowe, was hired as an assistant to new Elon coach Matt Matheny.
Gainey, who is from High Point, has worked for Lowe and the Wolfpack for the past three seasons.
He'll forever be remembered for playing every minute of the 1997 ACC Tournament. Gainey's the only player in ACC history to go 40 minutes in four conference tournament games.
Gainey graduated from State in 2000. He joins Matheny, who worked with Bob McKillop for 16 seasons at Davidson.
