Fowler, Avent agree on extension

Bookmark and Share

N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler said today that he and baseball coach Elliott Avent have agreed on a contract extension, pending approval by the school's board of trustees.

Avent said Wednesday night that he had held discussions with Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs about the Tigers' head-coaching vacancy but had met with Fowler and wanted to stay with the Wolfpack.

Fowler said he could not discuss the specifics of the agreement until the trustees sign off on it early next month.

"We've agreed in principle to improvements to the program, for Elliott and his staff," Fowler said today. "I'm glad Elliott is staying with us and glad that he will keep his staff intact. It is a staff we very much wanted to keep together."

The Wolfpack finished 42-22 this season, advancing to an NCAA Super Regional for the first time since 2003.
