Virginia Tech is the highest-ranked ACC team in the preseason AP Top 25, released today. The Hokies are No. 7, followed by Georgia Tech (15), Florida State (18) and UNC (21).
Curious, the two voters (me and Jeff Gravley) who see UNC the most, don't have the Tar Heels in the top 25.
N.C. State and ECU were among the "others receiving votes."
And to answer your question, Ray Ratto, the San Francisco Chronicle columnist, is responsible for all nine of Boston College's points. He ranked BC No. 17.
Florida was the near-unanimous No. 1 choice with Texas receiving two first-place votes (one from me).

I am not convinced yet that
Sun, 08/23/2009 - 09:19 — mytwokingsI am not convinced yet that carolina is a Top 25. As for STATE, the PACK just needs to prove them selves on the field by winning and winning convincingly!!!
Polls don't mean much
Mon, 08/24/2009 - 12:21 — SurferRight now, UNC is a Top 25, (see poll), how much more info is necessary to convince you? Isn't this fun.
Now will they stay there? I am not so sure. But the fact that they are and State is not is just killing JG, ref. his efforts to separate himself from all things UNC.
Agree-preseason polls don't mean much.
Mon, 08/24/2009 - 12:40 — JPDOhioBest example-Notre Dame. There is no justification for optimism in South Bend until they actually start winning. And unless the spirit of Knute Rockne rises from the dead and takes over Charlie Weiss' body, I don't see it happening.
Both State and UNC have top 25 potential, but both need to earn it by succeeding over an entire season. One thing I am sure about though-both State and UNC are better than Notre Dame.
I heard a rumor that Lou
Mon, 08/24/2009 - 18:04 — Heels20I heard a rumor that Lou Holtz picked Notre Dame to win the national title. Please tell me this wasn't true. I wouldn't put it past him, but the man needs to be put in a mental hospital if it is true.
Almost
Mon, 08/24/2009 - 18:41 — JPDOhioHe said they would make the National Championship game.

Lou is either senile or is more interested in generating controversy than coming up with serious analysis. Take your pick.

Mon, 08/24/2009 - 12:07 — UNC1998but, until(l) you transferred. Thank you. I normally wouldn't worry about things like that. Since you corrected a previous poster, I didn't think you'd mind.

Mon, 08/24/2009 - 17:54 — bluecat101thanks, go duke!!!!!!!!!!
No problem..
Tue, 08/25/2009 - 10:50 — UNC1998As an aside, I'll not do that anymore, as I have my share of typos. Spirited rivalry is vital to college athletics. In that vein...why are posting on a football blog?

Let me cure your curiosity: most of the AP voters aren't suffering from the disabling inferiority complex that afflicts State grads.
Where is Duke's point?
Sat, 08/22/2009 - 20:08 — JPDOhioDidn't Steve Spurrier always give Duke a point in the past or am I mistaken. If so, what happened?
Did he stop now that they actually are getting better? Or is it because he is pulling some random student off the street to do it so as not to burden his staff or take up any of his valuable time?
Steve Spurrier
Sun, 08/23/2009 - 19:26 — gvillegatrwas TOLD he could not give that 25th vote to DUIke anymore.

Journalism = UNC
I'm surprised the AP didn't rank them in the top ten.
