Former player critical of Gottfried on Twitter

Bookmark and Share

Thomas de Thaey left the N.C. State program in November, but he took one last shot at his former coach on Wednesday morning.

In response to N.C. State's 86-84 loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday night, de Thaey wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday:

"That's what happens when you're a great recruiter, but terrible coach!"

Causing a further stir, among those who retweeted that comment about N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried was N.C. State freshman forward T.J. Warren (who has since deleted his retweet).

De Thaey, who still has "GOPACK" in his Twitter handle, wasn't finished. He responded to some N.C. State fans who didn't like his critical tweet.

"Y'all mad at me now because I'm just telling you guys the truth…LOL! That's what happens when you're blind to the facts!"

De Thaey, a sophomore, played 27 minutes in three games this season. Unhappy with his playing time, he left the N.C. State program and returned to Belgium to pursue a pro career.

Old style

I was looking at my '74 yearbook recently. The last words were:
GO TO HELL CAROLINA, GO TO HELL
A hate like this is a joy forever.

Yes, turned around.

Going from not even making it into the NIT to the sweet 16 of the NCAA is a major turn around. And again, despite the 2 recent road losses, State is still off to the their best start in decades. Yes, turned around!!! Not a difficult concept!

I got it

Yes, turned around, but by whom? My point is that State finally has some seasoned talent.

SOUR GRAPES

Sounds like SCOUR GRAPES to me. I wonder if he had been playing 20+ minutes per game, would he have the same analysis?

Look at what has transpired so far

Gottfried turned around a team that couldn't even get into the NIT, and took them to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tourny in his first year. Now in his 2nd year, he has the team off to their best start in DECADES! He's ahead of schedule! I think I'll believe in the coach over a quitter!

perspective

Turned around? Perhaps so, but the reality is that finally State has some seasoned talent that decided to stay around. Yes, he has landed a couple of decent recruits, so this team has talent, but it wasn't used very effectively against Maryland and Wake.

Well...

The fact that Rodney Purvis had never heard of Devin Thomas (he sure has now!) says a lot about the coaching. Do these guys not do film work? Is there no scouting report?

typical

Just standard fare, as far as comments go. Talented players lose a game they shouldn't have and people blame it on the coach. Poor defense, missed FT's and open shots are to blame.

What a loser!

What a loser!

Sour Grapes

Someone needs to send the wanhmbulance to Belgium.

But maybe DeThaey has a point. He should know better than any of us since DeThaey had a front row seat on the bench for the majority of his time at NC State.

Huh?

Thomas should take a look at video of himself on the floor for the Pack. It won't take that long and it will show that he simply did not play well for whatever reason. Then, he should take a look in the mirror and resolve to be a better player, with his mouth shut.

A twitter from a quitter.

A twitter from a quitter.
