For Foster, wins have a ring to it

Bookmark and Share

CHAPEL HILL — Considering he’s the only player on the team with a national championship ring, from his 2005 walk-on season with the North Carolina basketball team, you’d think wide receiver Brooks Foster would flash the bling around the football locker room once in a while.

Nope. Not his style.

“It’s too big for me, too flashy, so I just leave it at home,’’ the senior said. “Plus I don’t want to lose it or scratch it up or anything.”

Instead, his dad, Bobby, wears it from time to time, “on special occasions, or he’ll wear it to work, or show it to the office.”

And although Foster can’t wear most jewelry for a long period of time because he’s allergic to the metal, he’d still like so earn a football ring to go with the basketball one.

Thanks to his game-winning touchdown catch last Saturday at Miami, the Tar Heels appear to be half-way to that goal — with half the victories needed to become eligible for a bowl bid (and ring).

I don't blame him

Rings are when the playing days are over. I'm sure Foster has a few more years of playing ahead of him.
