It's no secret the ACC would prefer to play its football championship game in Atlanta but with the SEC already holding down the Georgia Dome, that's not possible.
So, the ACC and the Atlanta Sports Council are trying to set up an annual game to kick off the season at the Georgia Dome. Clemson and Alabama will do so on Aug. 30.
The ASC, headed by N.C. State alum Gary Stokan, has lined up Virginia Tech to play in 2009. The opponent, Stokan wants Alabama to make a return trip but according to the Birmingham News that's not going to happen, is still to be determined although likely will come from the SEC.
"Our goal is to create the Daytona 500 of college
football in Atlanta every year," said Stokan said in the Birmingham News article.
Great idea by Stokan and good exposure for the ACC.
