ACC Now

Experienced Heels ready for the road

Bookmark and Share

UNC went 0-6 on the road in Butch Davis' first season. The Tar Heels improved to 3-2 last year, including their first win outside the state since 2002.

The 23rd-ranked Tar Heels are off to a 1-0 start on the road and hope to build on that Saturday at Georgia Tech. UNC hasn't won at Tech since 1997.

Davis has seen a growth in how his players handle road trips.

"There's a little different demeanor just from the standpoint that we've been together a little bit longer," Davis said. "You hope the older and more mature they become, they start to appreciate how much focus it takes to go on the road, eliminate the distractions and treat it like a business trip."

UNC lost its last trip to Georgia Tech by two points, four of its five losses since '97 have been by seven points or less.

The Heels went 2-2 on the road in the ACC last season, winning at Miami and Duke and losing at Virginia and Maryland.

Maybe I'm a homer..

but I'm liking their chances this Saturday. The defense will be ready. The offense has the tools to keep improving. The special teams (punting) do need a little improvement. UNC needs to start with better field position on average. Also, pinning the opponent down is vital.
