In their AFC semifinal game against Baltimore today (4:30 p.m), the Tennessee Titans need big games from, among others, running back Chris Johnson (ECU), tight end Alge Crumpler (UNC), linebackers Stephen Tulloch (N.C. State) and David Thornton (UNC) and defensive back Chris Hope (Florida State).
But perhaps more than any other player, the Titans need a lot from former Wolfpack and Southeast Raleigh High School star Leroy Harris. A second-season utility offensive lineman reserve for most of the season, Harris will get the starting call at center, where injured all-pro Kevin Mawae is not expected to play.
The 6-foot-2, 302-pound Harris, who has filled in at both guard slots and right tackle during regular season in addition to center, got the starting nod from Titans coach Jeff Fisher when it became apparent in mid-week that Mawae (right elbow injury) would not get up to full speed against what is widely rated as the best defensive unit in the NFL.
Harris, once ranked among the top high school wrestlers in North Carolina, will making his snaps to former Carolina Panthers quarterback Kerry Collins.
