ESPN believes in the 2010 UNC football team.
The Worldwide Leader will televise the Tar Heels' spring game on April 10 from Kenan Stadium.
The Heels return 19 starters from a team that went 8-5 in 2009 and will be one of the favorites to win the ACC next season.
The game will start at 3 p.m. and is schedule after the completion of the NCAA basketball tournament. Last year's game coincided with the Sweet 16 and the football game was sparsely attended.

You both get an "A" for the introduction of grammatical concepts...... I ain't mixing it up on the stats side of things with this crew. I prefer the big picture and trying to humiliate Mamba. However I am truly excited about the spring game being televised and I may actually go to my first one this year....As surfer says I am usually preoccupied with March Madness.... Don't have to worry about that this year.

And down the stretch they come and UNC football is screaming down the inside rail! ...
This is Funny
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 19:46 — YAR8packTo those of you who get enamored with just the first part of someone's post, you may want to actually read the entirety of an entry before getting deeply wounded.
Why exactly is the spring game going to be on ESPN? The only ACC team that had less attendance at their spring game last year was Boston College. Oh yeah. Blame it on March Madness. I'm sure every ram fan followed the team around to EVERY tournament stop, and that's why they couldn't make it out for the spring game.
Here's something you hole fans love to throw at NC State fans, so I'll return the volley: Why should unc get this type of coverage? They didn't win their division last year; finished fourth. They finished the year with two straight losses. They didn't win the ACC title. They didn't even finish in the top-25. They didn't win their bowl game. They haven't won more than 4 games in the conference since Butch took over.
If any team in the ACC deserves to have their spring game televised it would have to be Virginia Tech. Tech may have had an off year last year--though they finished 2nd in the conference. The Hokies are at the very least good EVERY year. The Hokies have won at least 10 games a year since 2004. Tech has won the ACC title more than any team since realignment. Tech has played in bigger and better bowl games than any team in the ACC since realignment.
Hey, it's just my take. No reason to get butthurt. unc should enjoy the free time on air for recruiting. Maybe all the hype will pan out for you guys in 2010.
Agree
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 09:50 — SurferHilarious (see above). Green much?
A few things
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 22:05 — Heels20I'll start off by saying that 19 returning starters is a little
deceptive, in that a couple of those guys were considered "starters"
when filling in for injured players. 17 should be the right number,
barring injuries, of course.
March Madness probably did have a
lot to do with the lack of attendance. Not necessarily because people
were following the basketball team around the country, but football was
a complete after-thought. There was also a lack of publicity about the
game last year. I made it to both the Carolina and State spring games
last season, but didn't even know about the Heels' spring game until
the night before. It wasn't held the same weekend as most spring games.
Either way, don't try the attendance card. We've beaten out the Pack the past 2 seasons (maybe more than that), so you don't have much room to talk there.
Your argument for the Hokies isn't unreasonable. They've been the best team in the conference since expansion and will only get better next year. Their defense loses a little bit more than we do, and Tyrod Taylor has improved, but has yet to fulfill expectations. I strongly believe Pittsburgh is a better team than Tennessee, so you can't really argue that VT spoke louder volumes in terms of their bowl victory. With all factors considered, if we're talking about which team is better right this second, VT has the edge, but only slightly. Not enough to make a huge argument against the Heels getting their shot at a nationally televised spring game this year.
But as you said, maybe [hopefully] the hype will pan out in 2010.
Attendance and Spring game
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 12:34 — willncsuThe ONLY ACC teams that should have their spring game covered are Clemson, FSU and VT. Other than that it would be kindof embarrasing to have it on TV for any other teams in the conference. The 20k+ reported at the NCSU game occasionaly is tiny compared to SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 schools, let alone the 20-30 people that show up for the UNC spring game. As for the annual attendance, NCSU has been at or above 100% capacity for about 7-8 years now. To try and compare UNC's slightly bigger but not completely full stadium is a joke. Nice try to twist the numbers around.
spring game!!!
Sat, 01/30/2010 - 14:29 — bluecat69bluecat69alabama had 90.000 + at last yr spring game. ok go duke!!
Untrue
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:18 — Heels20State sells/hands out all its tickets and call it filling the stadium to capacity, but take a look at the upper level of the student section. It is almost always half empty. I'm not sure what your basis is of UNC's "not completely full" stadium other than your delusional stereotype that the Wolfpackers make up so they can feel better about themselves. How do I know all of this? I've been to about 75-80% of the games in Carter Finley over the past 20 years. It's been years since I've missed a game in Kenan. As someone who frequently experiences both sides (unlike you), I can say with honesty that the Carolina fan base has been the less disappointing of the two over the past 3 years.
Just a tidbit
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:46 — YAR8packNot trying to stir the proverbial pot anymore than the wave of how it's swirling, but...if you're referring to the seats in Carter-Finley in the upperdeck above the student section, those seats are bought by StubHub and other ticket agencies/scalpers. Those seats are paid for in blocks, hence why that section is always empty. Take a look at stubhub at ticket locations.
I agree, the attendance at NC State games has been paltry when compared to Queenan. But, as I said before, it's all about the Ws. And State certainly hasn't been bringing those home. No denying that.
Pseudo-fans love a winner. Look at all the red sox "fans" that showed up during the fall of 2004. I've never seen a bandwagon grow so fast. I'm sure those same dolts were pulling for the Yankees this past October.
wow!
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:51 — gvillegatrstate fans have ALWAYS pounded their chest about attendance for a home game compared to a UNC home game. now you are debunking this myth!? sweet.
there is a first for everything!
But, your stance on stub hub and the seats in the right hand corner across from where the state football team stands is NOT TRUE. that is the student section all the way to the top. sometimes it is filled and sometimes it is not. one thing for certain is there are no "non-students" in that section.
agreed
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:48 — gvillegatrTwo seats in front of my family's seasons tickets have been "untaken" for a couple of years now. at least twice a street person has sitten in them. I wouldn't care as much if ncsu showered these folks BEFORE they came into the game. the smell is disgusting. it is what it is.
I know that sounds like a bunch of HS, but it is true. I know there are season ticket holders out there that have either heard about it or seen it first hand. don't pretend you have not.
I also point out to my sister, at the games I attend, that the student section is a joke. she agrees. also, the seats that fill in the bowl of the Murphy Center are "rarely" 70% filled. I'd hate to imagine what those seats would look like if the visiting teams didn't show up .....
and when I use the word "rarely," I mean it.
Suuuure
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:31 — willncsuI bet you go to 68% of Dukes game too. Seeing as how you have not missed at game at keenan, please explain to me how you make 75-80% of the games at Carter Finley? Can I borrow your timemachine/hellicopter?
Well
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:44 — Heels20Let me start by ONCE AGAIN disproving your idiotic comments with statistics. Carter Finley holds 57,583...but your average attendance was 56,422. So explain to me how that fits in your category of "at 100% capacity or more for the past 7-8 years." Come on, you're the math guy. Stop digging yourself in holes.
Since math is your specialty and you suck at it, I'm not surprised you struggled with reading my last post. I said 75-80% over the course of 20 years. I've only made it to 6 games at Carter Finley the past 2 years, but 3 of them included FSU, South Carolina and UNC...probably the 3 biggest games played in Carter Finley the past 2 years. The lack of atmosphere in the first half of the South Carolina game was embarrassing. The second half was better, but wasn't as loud as the UNC-FSU game played OVER FALL BREAK. That's pitiful. The NCSU-UNC game this past season was a solid atmosphere for a day game, but still doesn't compare to other games over the years. For example, FSU in 1998, FSU in 2002, UVA in 2003 and VT in 2005. But hey, how would I know? I didn't go to any of those...
This is objective...
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 14:02 — YAR8pack...unless you are somehow able to show decibel stats for the games. I know what you're trying to say, but it doesn't really hold up unless you've got stats to back it.
Hey, we're all allowed to be homers on this site. Though, some take it as an end-all-be-all proposition more than others.
It sounds biased
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 15:37 — Heels20But you might as well take my word as someone who has probably been to more games at Carter Finley than willncsu and exponentially more at Kenan. The guy already made blind judgments and threw out a statistic that could immediately be disproved (as always). And I am also humble enough to admit that the loudest game I have been to was at Carter Finley. However, the past couple years, the atmospheres at Kenan in games against ND, FSU and Miami were better than that of any game I've been to at Carter Finley since the FSU game in 2006. Obviously, you don't have to take my word for it, but I'm just saying. His blind guesses are meaningless when he has no basis of judgment/comparison.
Stats...
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 15:00 — willncsuMore Stats
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 15:02 — willncsuNCSU %
56,422.00 57,500.00 98.12521739
56,665.00 57,500.00 98.54782609

52,925.00 55,500.00* 95.36036036
*added ~2000 seats with stadium expansion
As for the student section being "empty", they get general admission seats and cram into the lower level leaving the upper level empty.
Percentages don't matter in this situation
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 15:31 — Heels20When it comes down to it, the past couple season, we have more people show up to see our guys play. I don't see how having more seats is something you can hold against us when your capacity isn't at 100% or more as you originally said.
Also, your excuse for the empty upper level is a joke. It's not physically possible to cram twice as many people into one section. You can cram a couple per row, but it eventually gets regulated. I've sat next to that section many times and know how it goes.
And further more...
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 15:07 — willncsuTickets are scanned at the gate to give the numbers. They are accurate for the number of people attending.
Number twister
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:12 — SurferToo funny Will, "20-30 people that show up for the UNC spring game". ROTFLOL. Nice try.
I am sure that this spring will show marked improvement in attendence for UNC though. First, conducting in after the NCAA tournament (if you don't know what that is, it is the post season tournament that occurs after the regular season and conf. BB tournaments. Something State has not had to worry about for a while as far as Spring game conflicts, etc...) Secondly, the game will be shown live on ESPN.
I am not even going to get into the "above 100% capacity" remark. Amazing.
Glad someone read my post without emotion
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 10:23 — YAR8packDude, sorry that I didn't say it clearly enough. Perhaps you missed it in my earlier post, "The only ACC team that had less attendance at their spring game last year was Boston College." Now, yes. There is something wrong with that. Miami had lower attendance at their spring game than unc or BC. My bad on that error. I did a lil extra fact checking and found this: " http://blog.al.com/ birmingham-news-spor ts/2009/05/SPRING%20 FBALL.pdf
Now, if you mean regular season attendance, then, yeah. unc has had more folks attend their games than NC State has the past two seasons. I'm sure we both know the reasons for that. Gotta put Ws on the board for folks to want to come out to spend their money on a sporting event instead of going to the beach, etc. Just a fact of sports. And, yeah, State has been rather crappy as of late, and what fans want to go to a sporting event where you feel 80% sure your team will lose? What's worse is that there's no real reason to think the Pack will be better this year. Mike "zone defense till I die" Archer's still running the D.
Here's a breakdown for national home-attendance for ACC teams in 2009:
No. 19 FSU 74, 345; No. 20 74, 214; No. 23 Virginia Tech 66, 233; No. 33 UNC 56,607; No. 34 NC State 56,422; No. 41 Georgia Tech 51,584; No. 49 Virginia 47,986; No. 50 Miami 47,551; No. 54 Maryland 44,452; No. 65 Boston College 35,716; No. 72 Wake Forest 31,791; No. 78 Duke 26,314
Though, those numbers should be looked at somewhat skeptically due to the stadiums with a larger capacity to house spectators being at the top. The lone exception is "Da U" playing at Sun Life stadium, or whatever the hell it's known as this week.
Knew you'd understand (I'm not looking for agreement) my suggestion that, just based on a high standard of performance, it should be the Hokies getting to show their spring game on ESPN.
Also, I should've added that the Hokies have been to multiple Orange Bowl's since realignment; those are the bowl games I'm referring to. Tire bowls and Pizza bowls shouldn't count. Either way, congrats to unc for getting some free air-time.
Yeah. Going into the 2009 bowl season, Lame Kiffin's Tennessee team was way more overrated than Pitt.
Folks better watch out. The Panthers may make a lil noise in 2010.

Go ahead. Defend your team with empty dribble. Here's some more stats for you: Let's look at the numbers. Since division play began (5 years now) the Atlantic has won 122 games compared to the Coastal with 118. There are four teams in the Atlantic (BC,CLEM,FSU and WF) that are over .500 in conference games. There are only two teams from the Coastal (GT and VT) over .500 in conference games. Miami is .500, actually.
Guess I'm just being a hater. How dare I let reason stand in the way.

Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:58 — YAR8packPerhaps you're caught up in homonyms. Let me bust your self assuring bubble once again.
Dribble can be used as a verb, or in the case that I use it, a noun. The noun refers to foolish talk or ideas. Look it up, gaytr. Sometimes words have more than one meaning. Here's an example that you can take home to work on: No one should acknowledge any of gaytr's dribble.
What Old Blue Eyes tune do you have for me today? You're such a fan.

Just judging by your lack of tact in any of your prose, I'm sure you're the last person on this site to go to for proper pronunciation.
