Early to join Gottfried's staff at N.C. State

Bookmark and Share

Mark Gottfried didn't waste any time getting a head start on his coaching staff at N.C. State.

The Wolfpack's new basketball coach is expected to hire Orlando Early as one of his assistants. Early spent this past season as an assistant at South Carolina, he previously worked with Gottfried at Alabama.

Gottfried was hired by State on Tuesday ending a three-week search for Sidney Lowe's replacement. State athletic director Debbie Yow promised a "top-notch" staff, "second to none" in the country during Gottfried's press conference on Tuesday.

Early, 43, spent four seasons with Gottfried at Alabama from 2001-05, helping the '04 Crimson Tide team to the Final Eight. He left Gottfried to become the head coach at Louisiana-Monroe, where he spent five seasons before joining Darrin Horn's staff at South Carolina.

A Carolina man

I believe.  Not unusual to hire a person you have worked with in the past.  Obviously enjoyed a positive relationship at Alabama.  Might help in recruiting the Carolinas.

He is a Carolina man, says

He is a Carolina man, says so in the the article! Sorry Gamecocks, looks like we stole your coach...
