Duke's Scheyer keeping up with draft

Bookmark and Share

It's rare for an athlete to admit to reading articles about his potential or current abilities.

But Monday morning in a phone interview, Duke guard Jon Scheyer said he is doing just that to prepare for life after Blue Devils basketball.

"I want to inform myself when it comes to next year so I know what teams look for," Scheyer said.

Scheyer's ex-teammate and best friend, Gerald Henderson, is currently going through the draft process himself after declaring for the draft April 25. Scheyer said while he does not initiate conversation about the draft, when it does come up, he listens as closely as he can to Henderson.

Scheyer used to not read any web sites, saying once he got to high school, he tried to avoid the coverage of him both in print and online. He said he still is dubious about most websites since he does not believe they can all have access to accurate information.

He did, however, say he enjoyed reading some web sites that have a proven track record.

Scheyer, one of three captains last year for coach Mike Krzyzewski, was third on the team with 14.9 points per game and led the team with 79 3-point field goals.
