Duke to face familiar foe

Bookmark and Share

Duke will face a familiar foe in the NIT Season Tipoff semifinals on Nov. 25 in New York - and it's not just Herb Sendek.

With a 52-49 defeat of Texas Christian on Tuesday that ended long after midnight on the East Coast, Arizona State advanced to the meeting with Duke. Sendek, the former N.C. State coach, credited an ex-Duke player with carrying Arizona State against TCU.

Center Eric Boateng, a former McDonald's All-American who played just one season with the Blue Devils before transferring to Arizona State, posted career highs with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Arizona State wasn't nearly as dominating in its second-round game as Duke was in a 101-59 thrashing of Charlotte. But Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz said the 49ers might have been more competitive if he'd had some practice time to prepare them to adjust their uptempo pace and play at a slower tempo.

As N.C. State fans know (for better or for worse), Sendek is a master at playing at a slow tempo. And he has time to prepare, plus a big man in Boateng who will be eager to prove himself to his former teammates in New York.

Herb Sendek...

...the second-best thing to happen to the University of North Carolina. What's the best? Sidney Lowe.

I thought it was choking in

I thought it was choking in the tourney all those years with Dean Smith.  At least Roy got over that hump.

Give Sid some time and he will get it together.  He has a top recruiting class coming in next year.  Even Herb took 5 years to get things started.

Dean, Roy, Herb and Sid

Certainly it is easy to "choke in the tourney all those years" when you are going to the tourney "all those years". Not sure what hump, compared to Dean, that Roy has gotten over, yet. They each have two Natys.

I liked Herb and I like Sid. Herb got things started, but never finished. I hope that it is not true, but Sid may be finished before he even gets started. Surely he's got 3-5 years left with the prospects he has coming in.

Who is going to fire him?

Duke wins this one by 40.

.......

and ya'll still hate Sendek.  so what does that say for you liking Lowe??  sounds like hypocricy to me.

Let the Herb thing Die!!!!!!!!!!!

Sendek was 17-54 record against Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest, the Wolfpack's three in-state ACC rivals.

I think Herb was like 3-30 vs Duke. Even if he wins this game I'm still glad he left. He treated rival games just like every other game, dull and boring. I couldn't stand the Princeton Offense and slowing the game down. That doesn't work in the ACC. Besides it took Herb 5 years to build the program into a 3rd best team. Sid is in his 4th season and it will take him awhile too.

If Herb beats duke, how many

If Herb beats duke, how many heads explode in Raleigh?

None, we are glad he left.

None, we are glad he left.

Not mine.

This Pack fan would love to see Herb take it to K, big time.

Of course, I am not in Raleigh either, so I guess I don't count.

Respect for a coach who .....

spews expletives ad nauseum and within ear shot of youngsters is highly questionable.

Rant

Yep, kinda like he did last Friday at about 4:20? At least the were probably no kids around.

Certainly Coach Ka;ldkdaski has a good record at Duke and no I didn't think foreverduke was bluecat, not enough exclamation marks at the end.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

I AM NOT BLUECAT. BUT I AM SOMEONE WHO IS A TRUE DUKE FAN AND SUPPORTS HIS COACH AND TEAM. COACH K IS A GREAT COACH REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT HIM. I WOULDN'T EXPECT A DUKE HATER TO EVER SAY ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT HIM . BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK. GO DUKE!

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF

IF THERE IS A RAT OR MOUSE IN THE BUNCH IT MUST BE YOU. CALLING COACHES BAD NAMES IS DISRESPECTFUL AND SHOWS BAD SPORTSMANSHIP FOR THE GAME. I MAY NOT CARE FOR SOME COACHES OR PLAYERS BUT I WILL NEVER BE IMMATURE ENOUGH TO RESORT TO NAME CALLING. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SENDEK NEVER DID WHEN HE WAS AT STATE. COACH K IS A GREAT COACH AND HAS MY RESPECT. AS ALWAYS DUKE HATERS HAVE TO SHOW UP . GO DUKE!

So nice of you to show up

So nice of you to show up bluecat.  I see you discovered caps lock and proper grammar.  Unfortunately, you have yet to recognize that Coach Krzsd;lfjkas is a poor representative of sportsmanship.

Who wins this one?

The mouse, or the rat?

GO

GO Boateng!!!
GO Herb!!!
Go Sun Devils!!!
