Duke rules NBA free agency

Tags: ACC Now | Duke

Every NBA free-agent move this offseason has involved a former Duke player. At this rate, you can expect Christian Laettner to attempt a comeback with Minnesota.

Chris Duhon signed a deal with the New York Knicks today. Duhan won't be confused for Steve Nash in Mike D'Antoni's offense but his selflessness and work ethic should be a welcome relief at Madison Square Garden.

The big news from earlier in the week was Elton Brand's decision to jump to Philadelphia. The biggest non-story in the season of non-stories has to be Brand's pinky-swear promise to Baron Davis to stay with the Clippers. Honestly, did they pass notes in gym class? Money talks and friendship walks, especially when there are six zeroes involved.

Brand played seven seasons with Clippers, the worst franchise in all of professional sports, if he thinks Philly, which made the second round of the playoffs in the East, is right for him then godspeed.

(Side note: Billy King's gone and the Sixers still have a Duke jones.)

Oh, and don't forget Corey Maggette, himself a Clipper refugee for eight seasons, who jumped into the cap vacuum in Golden State created by Davis' leap to L.A.

Speaking of Duke and the NBA, J.J. Redick continues to fall further down Orlando's depth chart, not quite what the Magic expected out of the 11th overall pick.

Tell me a decent Carolina

Tell me a decent Carolina player in the last 10 years that was with only one team. Oh...I guess none of them are good enough pros for their teams to keep them around. Moron.

Wait, so Philly is a larger

Wait, so Philly is a larger market than L.A.? The Boozer move was certainly sleazy (Is Utah a big market team?), but this is just free agency.
I like that people (usually Carolina fans) still trash Duke for having bad pros. It looks like they are now in the top ten for NBA talent. By the way, I hate Duke and Coach K, but this argument no longer holds water.

just another loser carolina

just another loser carolina fan.

No i in team...

.. but there is a big U in dUke!

I don't care what he told Dan Patrick this morning, the Elton Brand move with the Clippers is the same thing that Carlos Boozer pulled a few years ago with the Cavs. Team loyalty is for suckers -- bolt to the bigger markets when given the chance. The Knicks will be better this year, but it won't be Duhon's doings.

Even the "Duke family" didn't help when J.J. earned his DUI shortly after graduating. Now the "best long range shooter ever" is riding the end of the bench in the Magic's kingdom, not too far from "it's a small world afterall".

that's because no duke

that's because no duke players are good enough pros for their teams to keep them around. except brand, of course, who [happily] left duke early.
