DURHAM — Running back Re'quan Boyette won't play this season, Duke coach David Cutcliffe said Wednesday.
The senior had knee surgery in August and has not played in Duke's first seven games. Cutcliffe had said all along he wouldn't push Boyette to play if he wasn't 100 percent.
Boyette, Duke's leading rusher in 2007 with 432 yards, was voted one of four captains for the season and has been on the field for coin tosses before each game, even for Duke's two road games.
Boyette will redshirt and have one season of eligibility remaining. In 33 games and 10 starts, Boyette as rushed for 1,072 on 251 carries with five career touchdowns.
