Duke plans huge basketball reunion

Duke is planning a huge celebration of coach Mike Krzyzewski's 1,000th game with the Blue Devils and the 70th year of basketball at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Duke Varsity Club will play host to what's being billed as the biggest men's basketball reunion in the history of program on Feb. 12-13. Krzyzewski's 1,000th game at Duke will be the 1 p.m. meeting on Feb. 13 with Maryland at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Over 300 former players, coaches, managers and trainers will be invited back. The weekend will include a reception hosted by Duke athletic director Kevin White and an after-game party with the current Duke coaching staff.
"This will be an exciting weekend and a great way to celebrate the history of Duke basketball," White said in a statement.

I'm pretty sure that UNC did not invent the concept of "honoring their coach" or having a "basketball reunion". Duke had one about 5-6 years ago. Duke is not having this reunion because of Carolina envy, they are having the reunion because of Mike Krzyzewski's achievements.

Look, if Duke copied Unc in banners, they would "honor" the jersey of every half talent that ever played for them, such as Unc has done with JR Reid, George Lynch and soon to be hung Wayne Ellington. Secondly, you will never, ever see Duke hang a banner for just making it to the NCAA tournament as their expectations are traditionally higher than that. As far as reunions go, I believe it was 2002 or 03 when Duke had a giant reunion weekend. Laettner, Brand, Avery, Hurley, Hill, Dawkins, Alarie, Ferry, Maggette, they all played in the reunion game which was to benefit the Emily Krzyzewski center. Look it up.

Tue, 11/10/2009 - 19:45 — uncznflThe Dookie reunion is so funny. Carolina has one of the richest basketball histories probably only 2nd to KY. The Dookies will all ways have the inferiority complex. When I was growing up in the late 60's and early 70's the Dookies were being used to mop the floor. Beating Carolina save Buckey Waters job for three years in beating Carolina in Durham. He got fired the year Carolina pulled out the win with just a few seconds on the clock and it was bye bye Buckey. Carolina in its 100 years of basketball has been ranked #1 101 times (thanks Woody and Carolina basketball broadcast). So let the Dookies have their little party. The big party will be 8 miles west of them.
