It appears that neither Mike Krzyzewski nor anybody else on the Duke staff Wednesday night followed North Carolina coach Roy Williams’ lead in dealing with loud opposing fans.
Three Florida State fans who drew attention to themselves in prime, front-row baseline seats during the first half at Cameron Indoor Stadium left those seats of their own accord in the second half, according to Duke associate sports information director Matt Plizga.
Plizga said the three were not asked to leave by Duke staff members or by the outside security officers Duke hires to staff the event.
Why was this even a question?
Earlier this season, Williams sent security officers into the stands to confront a Presbyterian fan at the Smith Center who hollered from several rows behind the North Carolina bench for Deon Thompson to miss a free throw.
The fan at North Carolina was ejected. The Florida State fans at Duke were not, Plizga said. In the first half, Duke’s fans made fun of the most demonstrative of the three Florida State fans. The students chanted, “Harry Potter, Harry Potter” at him because his shirt resembled something worn by the movie character.

Sat, 01/30/2010 - 12:30 — foreverdukeThese articles just get worn out after awhile. Write about it once and go to something else. I like to read about stats and players not who threw who out of a game. Once is enough. Go Duke!

Time for your quiz bluecat69
Please give the definitions of the following words with at least one example used in a sentence. You can't use the dictionary.
1) Herpetology
2) Balderdash
3) Repetition
4) Atavistic
5) Tantamount
If you guess the special secret word derived from the above words you get extra credit.
If you have been reading the posts you may have come across a brand new word ,provided by Greenplanet, and if you can tell me what that word is you can boost your score by 25%
Good Luck

They weren't in the grad
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 10:06 — harri063They weren't in the grad section, they were in the corporate comp seats in front of the grad students. They were definitely NOT grad students, too old. And the security guy spoke to them twice, both times in the first half telling the guy to stop cussing out the refs and screaming obscenities or he would be asked to leave. In the beginning of the second half, they got up on their own and left. Security had said nothing else to them. I guess they felt if they couldn't cuss out the refs, they didn't want to be there.
fsu student
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 09:53 — yuedanaThe fans were sitting in the grad student section. There are commonly rooters for the other team in the graduate student section. Some schools certainly will have more rooters in the section than other schools (e.g. when Duke plays UVA, there will always be a number of UVA supporters in the section.) I am sure that when Duke is playing anybody other than FSU, those fans will be rabid Duke fans.
Just a coincidence
Fri, 01/29/2010 - 00:19 — grabarekThis news is a relief. I guess it was just a coincidence that the FSU fans left after being spoken to by a security guard at the beginning of the second half.
Roy didn't throw anybody out
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 15:00 — ThePRGuyI was at the Presbyterian game and was in 214, the section above the guy who got tossed. He was not the first nor will he be the last person to drink alcohol and switch seats. His biggest mistake was calling attention to himself. Not only did he shout out "Miss it, Deon" when it was quiet, when Roy turned around to take a look, the fan stood up and was pumping his chest. Roy did not tell security to throw him out, he talked to his assistant coaches who told security to go up into the section and investigate. Security determined he had been drinking and was in the wrong seat. If your're going to act like an idiot at a public sporting event, don't be surprised if security throws you out.
NO NO NO
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 15:12 — Heels20I think we should all listen to Ken. These are clearly identical situations where the coaches acted differently, and we should therefore use the outcomes as reflections of each coach's character. Roy is clearly the scum of the earth, and we should all worship the ground on which K walks.

Fan ejection at UNC
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 12:46 — GrandadAfter returning from NYC where the families sitting behind the UNC bench were subjected to a lot of abuse that almost became physical, Roy was sensitive to the shouts from an opposing fan coming from behind the bench where only family members and special guest are supposed to be sitting. They may have to put up with that in NY, but not at Carolina. He only asked who's seat was the heckling coming from, and when the guards checked, the heckler was not supposed to be sitting there. They removed him as he had no right to be there. If the heckler were in the opponents seating area, or in the seat assigned to him with his ticket, then nothing would have happened. Sitting in this special area is different.

Thu, 01/28/2010 - 12:12 — duke_bluewhen i first read the article about Roy doing that, i sort of defended him in my comments. i tried to be rational about the situation. now after reading this article and having a chance to think about it more, i can see there was nothing rational about what he did. the rivalry and the taunting fans are part of the game. the coaches, the players and the home team fans have to deal with it. how they deal with it shows their character. some may not agree, but the way the cameron crazies handled it was pretty funny.
