Billy Donovan once showed up at Broughton High School parking lot to wave to Shavlik Randolph.
The Florida coach is back in the Triangle in recruiting mode, apparently searching for John Wall (850 the Buzz) at a Starbucks.
Wall Fever (patent pending) is sweeping the nation from Coach K to Manhattan tourists to contract lawyers. Still no word, or even a timetable, for Wall's decision. Seeing as how his list of colleges has expanded in the past month — from Kentucky, Miami and UNC to the University of Phoenix and DeVry Institute — there's no end in sight.
Actually, he can take his sweet time with his college choice (assuming he qualifies). He can wait all the way until the first day of classes for the fall semester (some time in August). If he decides the challenge the NBA, and he said that's not his plan, he would have to do that by Sunday.
Post script on Donovan: After forward Alex Tyus decided to transfer, Donovan delivered the money quote in regard to the exodus from Florida's program in the past 12 months — "In all reality, we lost a player or two players off two NIT teams."
Now that's how you say goodbye in Gainesville, no soft-shoe release from the school with a fabricated quote from the coach wishing so-and-so good luck.

I can't get my thread
Tue, 04/21/2009 - 17:02 — jeromfitzdown on the internet(virus in the air at N&O.com). So I just hope no one want to Player Hate Mr. Wall about his future decisions. I just wish him the best to develope his skills for the next levels in the NBA. Improve on his weakness because colleges don't have lucrative contracts they just offer a heck of a scholarship for college. I notice how some of the bloggers has wish hurt on him in his first year. Now that sounds so uno loca to wish hate on talented people because they more skills and talent than you.
I don't wish ill will towards anyone...
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 21:34 — UNC1998most folks do a pretty good job of creating that themselves. Anyway, it will happen when it happens. Just like a lot of things. From my perspective as a UNC fan.....it doesn't really matter. UNC's coaches aren't recruiting him. He said that himself (snicker).
i'm tired of hearing about
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 20:42 — mad_maxi'm tired of hearing about john wall. i've actually met him and his family...not exactly impressive. i love to see kids like this that think they own the world get shot down. i hope he gets injured in his freshman season. also, the kid nc state got from athens drive (where i went to high school) is a disgrace. teachers hate him, because he thinks everyone owes him everything. these are the attitudes we create for our youth by over-hyping high school basketball players. makes me sick. as a wolfpack fan, i do NOT want to see john wall play for us....sure he's got some talent, but his character is nowhere close to that of the guys we already have like javi gonzalez. i'd rather root for a hard working, humble athlete, than an immature showboat any day. see julius hodge
If only Herb could get into the hunt.
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 13:54 — JPDOhioImagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would happen if Herb got Wall to sign with ASU. It will never happen, but the entertainment value would be, well, priceless!
wall
