For the first time since Chris Paul left for the NBA, Wake Forest is the No. 1 team in the country.
The Demon Deacons (16-0), the only undefeated team in college basketball, received 68 first-place votes to take the top spot in the AP Top 25 for the first time since November 2004.
Duke, which beat Georgetown on Saturday, got the other four first-place votes to give the ACC the top two spots. All four of the ACC teams in the rankings are in the top 10 — UNC (5) and Clemson (10).
Wake hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since Paul's college career ended after that 2004-05 season. Coach Dino Gaudio has his sights on a bigger prize than midseason rankings.
"I told the team when we got off the bus on Saturday, 'If you guys are happy being No. 1 on Jan. 19, then you’re not the team I think you are,' " Gaudio told the AP.
Pitt, the No. 1 team for the previous two weeks, lost on Saturday at Louisville. The Panthers dropped to No. 4. The Big East also has four teams in the top 10 and eight in the top 25.
Wake and Duke are also No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the coaches' poll.
