Josh Davis always wanted to play basketball for N.C. State. The Athens Drive forward will get his chance, Davis' high school coach said Monday.
Davis, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward, committed to N.C. State during a campus visit Monday according to Robert Clemons, who coaches Davis at Athens.
"He’s always wanted to go [to N.C. State]," Clemons said. "He always talked about N.C. State. That was his school. He worked hard enough, and was able to get an offer."
Clemons said Davis can score on the block as a power forward and is skilled enough to play small forward.
Davis averaged 25.7 points and 12 rebounds per game this season as a senior. He had been considering UNC-Wilmington and had scholarship offers from Gardner-Webb and High Point.
Seton Hall's staff also wanted Davis to make a campus visit, Clemons said.

i'm an athens drive alumnus,
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 16:08 — mad_maxi'm an athens drive alumnus, and i have to admit, when i first heard this report i wasn't excited at all. but perhaps this will work out for the pack. if davis loves the wolfpack anywhere close to as much as i do, then i'm all for us giving him a shot to contribute. i'm already planning to go meet him and see him play (got connections like that lol), and i'm gonna keep my hopes up. as for, the whole 1-star issue...people need to not look so much into recruit rankings. sure, he's not gonna make an immediate impact and dominate people like 5-stars often do, but that doesn't mean he can't become a successful player in the acc. i shouldn't have to say this to unc fans, but remember jordan? he didn't even make his high school team when he first tried out. how did his career end up? we put way too much emphasis on recruiting these days. it makes me sick when i hear about schools having prospects that are still in middle school! it's a shame that so many kids' perceptions of reality are clouded by the media.
Josh Davis
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 14:09 — jhwhu98NC State is about to get a heck of a young man, not only in the gym but outside of it as well. He will represent his "dream" school with pride and won't disappoint his teammates and coaches. Now, I know that there are many intelligent readers who read and post to these blogs. One man's star on a website could be another man's two or three or four on another website. Heck Josh could start his own website and give himself five stars:) Please don't focus on the number of stars in your decision to evaluate if a kid can play or not. The Scout.coms of the world do serve a great purpose, but are not always correct in their judgements of a kid. Some of these websites are just one man's opinion after seeing one or two games.
Josh is a basketball player who has worked his tail off for this opportunity. Judge his play on the court and not in the media. I have had many conversations with him and have watched the kid play a lot of basketball over the summer and during the season. NC State fans won't be disappointed with Mr. Josh Davis.
Sid offered CJ Williams
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 10:39 — JamesinWillowSpringsSid offered CJ Williams early and landed him, and he looks like he's going to develop into a capable wing. They also offered Ryan Harrow extremely early, landed him, and he's developing into one of the country's best PGs. I think Sidney has a better eye for talent than perhaps we give him credit for.
Davis
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 10:34 — SurferI have seen Davis play and he does stand out somewhat in the HS game. He does have an upside, but how long he takes to make an impact is the big question. Perhaps Sid is a genius?
All I needed to read
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 08:51 — JamuncwAll I needed to read was the first line that says he has always wanted to play at nc state. This means he has the right attitude and enthusiasm for ncsu and hopefully it rubs off on his future teammates, unlike the unemotional fells and the "staring off into space while the coach is giving him advice" costner.
As for the stars, 1-star basically means he has not been evaluated yet by the recruiting services.
Stephen Curry
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 06:37 — ToddBullionsStephen Curry had a great list of offers too, didn't he?
Todd
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 07:28 — gvillegatri've already noted on Mr Curry up above. Curry had a pedigree. all this guy has going for him is a great family! nothing wrong with that. thats awesome. but the guy is not what ncsu fans want to see ... a 1 star recruit when UNC and DUIke continue to get 4 and 5 star recruits. dont try spinning it either. not going to work.
I'll withhold judgement
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 22:53 — JPDOhioWith Costner and Ferguson gone and no decent bigs left on the board this year, this is a low risk proposition. If the kid works out, great. If not, sounds like a guy who will push people in practice.
Note to Gatr: About a "father who played Div 1-A and NBA ball, he does not have!" Given the way Costner worked, I consider this a plus where Davis is concerned.
Steph Curry
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 07:30 — gvillegatrI was referring to Curry. he was not drafted by the big guys either but he did have his father who was great in collegfe and above avg shooter in the nba.
I see what you mean.
Tue, 03/24/2009 - 10:09 — JPDOhioBut obviously it doesn't work in all cases. I bet we can find examples proving both points all day.
On a separate note, I DVRed last weeks Life on Mars and watched it after you told me it had been cancelled. My wife is still pissed, because that is one of the few shows we both enjoyed. ABC=marriage wreckers.
One star????
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 22:38 — bstoneazHey I'm no reporter but it's worth noting he's listed on the scouting report with only one star is pretty important.
The scouting report has him at the bottom of his position.
Sid has much higher rated recruits to talk about.
power forward?
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 22:37 — george326'5'' power forward. lowe doesn't realize what duke and carolina will have in the paint next year or just can't recruit against them. too bad.
??????????????
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 20:31 — gvillegatrUNCW, G-W and High Pot ... and ncsu. i'm sure the fans are thrilled about this little nugget!!
Little Nugget?!! Actually a Diamond in the "Rough"
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 20:42 — tanntamountThis "little nugget" as you put it is a hard worker, and will surprise many State fans with his competitive nature. Very "under rated" player..
why??
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 20:48 — gvillegatrb/c you know him and his family??
cmon, man. Don't make me be the bad guy I can be sometimes! no one is excited about this guy.
look no further at who was giving him schollys. If he turns out to be a "diamond in the rough" as you put it, i'll send him and you (and his sweet family) a personal apology. A father who played Div 1-A and NBA ball, he does not have!
