You can't accuse Duke's David Cutcliffe of blowing sunshine up anyone's rear end, not even after a strong start that has people talking Blue Devil football.
Three games into the season, Duke has a bye so Cutcliffe had a chance to reflect on the Blue Devils' 2-1 record before they host Virginia on Sept. 27.
Asked what needed fixing in the weeks ahead, Cutcliffe laid it out thusly:
"Defensively, it would be to avoid some big plays we've given up. They've haunted us at times."
"We want to elevate our tackling. We think we can grow in that regard. We want to put more pressure on the quarterback and I think we can and will."
"Offensively, we have to get consistent running the football. We’ve been good at times. But good at times will get you beat in the ACC."
"We want to play more people in front offensively. We're fatiguing in certain areas up there more than we would like."
"Overall we've been good but we're still a long way from what we think is good enough to compete, to be a competitor in the ACC."
