Capel now second youngest coach

Bookmark and Share

Former UNC player Jason Capel’s distinction of being the nation's youngest head basketball coach lasted less than a month.

The 30-year-old Appalachian State coach was hired on April 19 to succeed another ex-Tar Heel, Buzz Peterson, who left for UNC-Wilmington.

But with Wednesday's announcement that Andrew Toole, 29, will take over at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Capel suddenly became the second-youngest. Toole, previously an assistant on the Robert Morris staff, takes over for Mike Rice, who left for Rutgers after a 23-10 season.
