Busy night for UNC/Duke recruit Barnes

Bookmark and Share

How important do two of the nation's top basketball coaches think 6-foot-6 small forward Harrison Barnes is to their programs’ futures?

Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski and North Carolina’s Roy Williams made in-home visits to scout.com’s top-ranked recruit in the 2010 class – on the same night.

Vance Downs, Barnes coach at Ames (Iowa) High, said in a phone interview that he was not present during Monday night's visits, but he briefly discussed it with his star player Tuesday morning."That’s all I know, is that they were both there … and it was a busy night," Downs said.

In August, Barnes narrowed his list of schools to six choices: UNC, Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma, UCLA and Iowa State. Downs said head coaches from all of the programs, except Iowa State, have now made in-home visits.

Downs also said Barnes has decided he will make his final decision before Nov. 16, his high school team’s first day of practice. "Originally, he had planned to wait until after the season, but he shared with me that he wants to wrap it up in November."

This is not the first time UNC has gone head-to-head for a key recruit. Other Tobacco road battles include Larry Miller (who chose UNC), Danny Ferry (Duke), Shane Battier (Duke) and Brandan Wright (UNC).

Barnes made his official visit to UNC last month, and is scheduled to visit Duke the weekend of Oct. 23.

Yay

I'm just glad he wants to wrap up his decision early, instead of draw it out for as long as humanly possible, and have newspapers make non-news stories about it every day, to stay at the center of attention like some other recr--JOHN WALL.

Roy and Harrison

According to my contacts in Chapel Hill, Roy was invited by the mother of Harrison Barnes to visit after Coach K had finished his visit..For what is worth, she named her son Harrison Jordan Barnes..She's a huge fan of Micheal Jordan !! Mrs. Barnes and Micheal had a brief encounter while she and Harrison were in CH for the Alumni game..We'll see what transpires between now and Nov 16th. The experts feel he'll end-up as part of the Carolina Tradition & Carolina Basketball Family.

Carolina has everything

Carolina has everything Barnes wants. Great basketball, a great business school and a great coach. He came on the best weekend possible for his official visit (Alumni basketball game and first football game), so if he doesn't want to commit after that, then UNC is not the place for him. Wish him the best though.

who was ...

there last? last man always wins no matter how good or bad his product is! all he has to do is low ball/offer more. it really is that simple.

CH visit

He was in Chapel Hill on Sept. 4 for the anniversary game. Don't know if he plans to be back after the Oct. Dook visit.

If not, hopefully the first impression is the best.
