The official bowl lineup will be revealed Sunday night but expect the following:
UNC vs. West Virginia in Charlotte and N.C. State vs. Rutgers in Birmingham, Ala.
With Troy's win over Arkansas State on Saturday, the Wolfpack will land an at-large bid in the Papajohns.com Bowl on Dec. 29 in Birmingham.
UNC will stay in-state with an ACC tie-in in the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 27.
Pittsburgh's 34-10 win over UConn on Saturday cleared up UNC and State's bowl opponents earlier Saturday, both from the Big East.
The Panthers accepted the Sun Bowl bid, leaving the Meineke Car Care Bowl with West Virginia. UConn and Rutgers already played — and lost to — UNC during the regular season and the Charlotte committee would prefer to avoid a rematch with the Tar Heels.
Birmingham picks the next available Big East team after Charlotte, and will likely take Rutgers, which has won six straight to get to 7-5.
Troy beat Arkansas State 35-9 to win the Sun Belt Conference title and free up an at-large spot in Birmingham for the Wolfpack (6-6).
Virginia Tech locked up the Orange Bowl with its win in the ACC title game, sending Boston College to the Music City.
Expect the bottom of the ACC order to shake out to Miami in the Emerald Bowl, Maryland in the Humanitarian Bowl and Wake Forest in the EagleBank Bowl.
ECU is headed to the Liberty Bowl as the C-USA champions.
All 34 bowl pairings will be made official on Sunday. ESPN will air a selection show at 8 p.m. The BCS pairings will be announced on FOX at 8 p.m.

NCSU vs RU
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 23:29 — statefan2010Should be a good game if your prediction holds true....Looking forward to it
Clearly a lot of economics
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:23 — PDS2006Clearly a lot of economics in some of the selections this year, which is understandable.
But the Eagle Bowl sure would be fun
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:22 — wolfpackdaveJP, do you think there is any chance the NCAA will make an exception and let NC State play in the Eagle Bowl as long as an arrangement is made with another bowl for Wake or Maryland?
If so what do you think the odds are?
I'll take RU
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 23:32 — statefan2010lot better matchup for state. You have a smoking hot Rutgers team that has won its past 6 games
ship has sailed
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:31 — jpg (author)The ACC tried on Monday to get State to DC and the NCAA denied it. Actually, worked out better for State's overall purposes — more practice, better opponent — but not necessarily the fans.

Papa-John Bowl is Cheapest
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:20 — doc2Papa-John Bowl has the smallest payout ($300,000) of all Bowls. Will the ACC make up the difference to the $750,000 payout level?
ACC money
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:32 — jpg (author)All the ACC money goes into a pot and is split 12 ways. State could potentially make more money by selling more tickets.

Way to tell it like it is, J.P.
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:16 — mikbarrettUNC fans are just mad that: 1) they have to play in a ho-hum bowl after the Pack whipped their tales, and 2) that State will not only be playing in a bowl, but on a later and better date. Here's hoping Pat White goes out in style
wheres that idiot ...
Sun, 12/07/2008 - 14:35 — gvillegatr... english major of a NCSU fan at calling out this NCSU fan for the wrong usage of the word "tales" at???
cmon man, it is "tails." (not that I care)
Well
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 22:37 — jpg (author)I don't think UNC fans are mad. Charlotte's a good spot for a bowl and typically it's a regional matchup.
Butch Davis is mad. He wanted to go to Florida but as the first commenter points out, geography won out this year in most of the selections.
Even Florida in the BCS title game!

Come on, Maryland!
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 21:05 — MarvinSchwartzWould you really rather go to the SmurfTurf than play at home in D.C.? I know it's exam week, but you'll be sleeping at home!
What a shame the D.C. bowl will be forced to have a dud of a rematch between Wake and Navy rather than a great matchup with tons of local interest.
The Champs Bowl
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 20:21 — UNC1998hasn't let word out about it's choice yet. Charlotte can't take UNC until it does. I'll hold judgement.
UNC
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 20:44 — jpg (author)I've reported UNC to Charlotte and I'm sticking by it. Was right about GT and Clemson.
— JPG
I'm not calling you out....
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 21:12 — UNC1998There's really nothing to worry about. I've just heard UNC is 50/50 on the Champs or Charlotte Bowl, and I'm just gonna wait and see. No big deal. If you're right, you're right.
fine
Sat, 12/06/2008 - 21:15 — jpg (author)but it's not "50/50" more like 100/0
