You gotta hand it to Bobby Bowden, most 79-year-olds have given up on ambition or even optimism. Papa Bowden's still hungry, or at least still crazy after all these years.
Bowden spent FSU's media day talking about winning another national title before he retires. Given the parameters of assistant coach Jimbo Fisher's contract, that means in Bowden would have to win a title in the next two seasons.
As FSU's humiliating, yet somehow forgotten, 45-15 loss to Florida demonstrated last season, Florida State is no closer to the national title than Florida Atlantic.
The Noles are hoping a recycled theme from 1999, the year of Bowden's second title, will propel the program past the Gators, national champs in '06 and '08 and the preseason No. 1.
The audacious slogan is: "It's not about Me ... It's about Us."
It's not about "Me?" At the risk of sounding like Denis Leary slagging on Keith Richards for anti-drug PSAs, who is it about?
Tallahassee's not just burning anymore, the ashes have fizzled out on the FSU empire while Bowden continues a selfish, counterproductive pursuit of college's career-wins record. Meanwhile, Fisher, motivated by Machiavelli or his own giant ego, negotiated a contract to pushes the old man out the door by Jan. 2011.
You're right it's not about "Me," it's all about "Me" at FSU, starting with the coaching staff.

Wed, 08/12/2009 - 15:10 — sportsnewzI would like to think that the Noles will get a national championship in the next two years because I am a huge fan, but since their team lost all their good recievers from last year when they got stomped by the gators, plus losing everette brown and byron role, it is highly unlikely they will see a title soon. Maybe top ten contender if the players can keep their act straight.
