ACC Tournament seeds set

Bookmark and Share

Updated: With Wake's win.

Duke will defend its ACC title as the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils will be the only Big Four team missing on Thursday at Greensboro

UNC (5-11) is the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 Georgia Tech (7-9) at 7 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum. N.C. State (5-11) is the No. 11 seed and will face the No. 6 Clemson at 9 p.m.

Wake Forest (9-7) took the No. 5 seed with Sunday's win over Clemson and will face No. 12 Miami at 2 p.m.

Duke's win Saturday means the seeds of Maryland (2) and Virginia (9) are also set. Duke and Maryland both finished 13-3 and split the regular-season series. Duke's season sweep of Clemson, and Maryland's season split with the Tigers, provided the tiebreaker in the ACC's "best win" system.

Florida State (3) and Virginia Tech (4) received the other two byes.

Thursday's schedule
No. 8 Boston College vs. No. 9 Virginia, noon
No. 5 Wake Forest vs. No. 12 Miami, 2
No. 7 Georgia Tech vs. No. 10 UNC, 7
No. 6 Clemson vs. No. 11 N.C. State, 9

Friday's schedule
No. 1 Duke vs. BC-UVa winner, noon
No. 4 Virginia Tech vs. Wake-Miami winner, 2
No. 2 Maryland vs. GT-UNC winner, 7
No. 3 vs. Clemson-State winner, 9

Strange

This is a strange position, but if the Heels can win one more game, they will asure themselves of a non-losing record. What a contrast compared to last year. However, on the dillusional side, if they finish 26-15 they will repeat. Oh well, in two years I expect a major turnaround.

confused.

26-15? I am assuming that is a typo.

Please elaborate, as I am always interested in delusional comments, especially since I have been know to make one or two (or a hundred).

Hint

4 + 6 = 10

Delusional?

Yes!

I gotta admit, I don't take hints very well (as my wife would confirm with an exclamation point). But I never would have guessed that's what you meant.

As the former Master of Delusional Postings, I respectfully hand my title over to you. Laughing

Should be another classic

Should be another classic tournament. I honestly think that State, UNC, and Wake all have a chance to make some noise next weekend, especially since the tourney is in Greensboro this year. I'm with JPD; I like the position State is in as the 11 seed. Hopefully State can somehow utilize that full court press that gave Clemson fits in the second half earlier this year in Raleigh. Good luck everybody, can't wait until Thursday!

roy's dysfunctional boys in ACC tourna..can you say "1 and done"

in tribute to the oscar horror segment....can you believe the Tar Holes finish tied with MOO U and WHO VA?

N.C. State 5-11 17-14
North Carolina 5-11 16-15
Virginia 5-11 14-15

State

I like where the Pack ended up, for a couple of reasons.

1. Clemson will be tough, but if State can get past them, Fla State would be my choice for a second game.

2. More importantly, they play at 9, which means I won't be at work and my wife will be asleep. So I will have a couple of hours of uninterrupted joy or agony.

Can't wait.

ditty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks like your wife is the smart one in your family-- asleep , instead of watching the wulfpeckers get beat AGAIN, go duke!!!!

Who is #1 seed if Duke/Md tie?

I heard on ESPN that Duke wins all tie breakers against Maryland. However, if FSU is the #3 seed, Maryland was 2-0 vs the Noles and Duke was 1-0. In that scenario, Maryland would be the top seed and Duke #2. I think Duke does win all other ties.

Clemson is the tie-breaker

Clemson beat Md, Duke swept Clemson.

So Clemson qualifies as Duke's "best" win.

Hence, if Duke wins tonight, it is the No. 1 seed.

well then

I guess Maryland will be the #1 seed after 1130pm.

I guess not.

I guess not.

Nope

Apparently, beating a team twice is the same as beating them once, so the Fla State results are considered a tie. There is an explanation in the weekly news release that you can find on the ACC website.
