Maryland (4-2) and Boston College (3-3) both still control their own fate in the Atlantic Division. Win out and either the Terps or Eagles are in Tampa on Dec. 6 for the ACC Champsionship Game.
Wake Forest (4-3) and Florida State (4-3) are still alive but need help.
Remember, the first tie-breaker is the head-to-head result, or group record if more than two teams are tied.
The second tie-breaker, which will likely be the deciding factor, is division record.
With those two rules in mind, the division-winning scenarios for the four teams still alive in the Atlantic.
Note: The best either Clemson (3-4) or N.C. State (2-4) can do is finish 4-4. Mathematically, either Maryland, Wake Forest, Boston College or Florida State has to finish 5-3.
Maryland
Conference record: 4-2
Division record: 3-0
Remaining schedule: Florida State, @ Boston College
1) Beat FSU and BC
At 6-2, Maryland would finish one game better than any team in the division.
2) Lose to FSU
AND beat BC
AND Wake beat BC
That would create a three-way tie with Maryland, FSU and Wake at 5-3 and each team would have the same group record but Maryland, 4-1 in that scenario, would have the best division record.
Wake Forest
Conference record: 4-3
Division record: 2-2
Remaining schedule: Boston College
1) Beat BC
AND Maryland loses out
That would create a two-way tie between Wake and FSU at 5-3. Wake beat FSU 12-3 on Sept. 20
Florida State
Conference record: 4-3
Division record: 2-2
Remaining schedule: @ Maryland
1) Beat Maryland
AND Wake loses to BC
AND BC loses to Maryland
That would make FSU and Maryland 5-3 and FSU would have the head-to-head tie-breaker.
Boston College
Conference record: 3-3
Division record: 2-1
Remaining schedule: @ Wake Forest, Maryland
1) Beat Wake and Maryland
The Eagles don't need any help but they can't win the division if they lose.
####
And bonus scenario, just for kicks and giggles:
1) Maryland wins out
2) Wake loses to BC
3) Clemson wins out
4) N.C. State wins out
That would leave Maryland at 6-2 and the other FIVE Atlantic teams at 4-4.
