App State to open at ECU in '09

Bookmark and Share

Appalachian State will play two nonconference games against schools from the UNC system, ECU and N.C. Central, in football in 2009, just not the two schools the App faithful would prefer.

The Mountaineers travel to East Carolina for the 2009 opener, on Sept. 5, the schools announced Tuesday. ASU and ECU have not met since 1979.

NCCU will travel to Boone on Oct. 10.

I'm preparing now for the Yosef barrage come next September.

That's Great News

Certainly this is all good news for us football fans!

I love how fans of a C-USA

I love how fans of a C-USA school that hasn't finished better than 7-5 since 2000 think it's an insult to play ASU. This will be a very competitive game; ASU has a strong team, as well as a stronger fan following than many of the teams in your own conference. If LSU, Michigan, VA Tech, Florida and Georgia can schedule ASU, I don't think ECU is above it either.

Yosef Barage????

I'm astonished there has not been one post from the Mountaineer fans. I guess they are waiting on their daddy to schedule them ...

Come on

"Just not the two schools the App faithful would prefer"

Oh, State and Carolina are so much better than ECU, what a joke. I can't even enjoy the N&O's college football coverage without constant digs on ECU. Aren't you supposed to be covering ECU, great way to win readers to your column.

I think this is just a bad

I think this is just a bad decision by Terry Holland. No disrespect to App State, They are a good FCS team, but ECU has come a long way in the past 4 years. Ever since Holland came to ECU he has done a great job in creating one of the toughest schedules year in and year out and I just dont see how App State was the best team they could find to fill this spot. The teams havent played since 79, and one school is an FBS school and the other is an FCS school. So to be honest, this game doesnt really matter that much. I mean what is ECu trying to do, lower their standards like ACC and Big Ten Schools do. Wrong Choice, Play the bog Boys, you've proved you hang with them, this game doesn't help.
