Alabama coming to Wallace Wade in '10

DURHAM — Alabama will make an appearance at Wallace Wade Stadium in 2010 to play the Duke Blue Devils, Duke Athletics Director Kevin White confirmed on Wednesday.

“It’s pretty straight forward,” White said. “The 2010 Duke-Alabama game is our home game. We simply decided to play it at Wallace Wade.”

Duke's previous plan was to stage its home game of the home-and-home series with the Crimson Tide at another site. Duke's athletics department, under former AD Joe Alleva, had considered other cities, most seriously Atlanta, while looking for a larger venue.

The move makes a statement for the fledgling Duke football program that is off to its best start in 14 years at 3-1 and 1-0 in the ACC. White, Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils are saying they'll be ready for primetime by the time the game rolls around.

Duke played at Alabama in the first game of the home-and-home series in 2006. This will be Alabama’s first trip to play at Wallace Wade, which is named after the successful former Alabama coach. The game is attractive to Cutcliffe for another reason; the 54-year old coach is an Alabama graduate.

bama in wallace wade

It is a great thing for Duke football, and college football, to have Alabama coming to WWade. Also, if nothing else, it will ring a memory bell for bama fans on the fact that Wallace Wade was the person who's shoes the Bear inherited. Southern football was a joke until WWade took Bama to the Rose Bowl in 25 (I think) and beat Washington in the most important football game ever. As a Bama fan and a Dukie I can't wait.

40,000?....that won't even

40,000?....that won't even fit the visiting bama fans...it would make more sense and more money for Duke it they'd play it in a bigger stadium.

up to 40K

sorry still laughing about being excitied about having 40,000 in the stands. My question then is where are the Duke fans going to sit?

Are you serious? That is

Are you serious? That is fantastic....the same thing was said about Nebraska coming to Wake a few years ago. They'll have the field lowered by then, and have it up to 40 K or so plus add more bleachers if needed.

Hmmm

I think Mr Cutcliffe may be getting a wee bit too full of himself here, no?   This will be an old fashioned whoopin!
