Here's something that may help nip any upcoming Butch-Davis-to-such-and-such-team rumors: His agent, Jimmy Sexton, told the Birmingham Touchdown Club that he thinks his client will remain in Chapel Hill for quite a while.
"I think Butch Davis wil be at North Carolina for a long time,'' he said, according to the Birmingham News. "I don't know that. He'll have to make that decision.
"I do think that's a place you can win at, and the ACC isn't nearly as hard, at least right now, as the SEC."

some reason, I wanted her to be not-so-nice on SNL. I wanted to see her grab the mic (so to speak) and go for the jugular.
In a funny way, of course.

Butch will go
Wed, 10/29/2008 - 18:03 — nate from state (not verified)If Roy Williams coached BB at Alabama, would he leave it for UNC? Yes, UNC is one of the best BB programs in the nation. It is same situation for Butch. UNC has OK football potential but do you really think he would stay when he could go to such a powerhouse program like UT. Do you think he likes playing #2 to ROY. I won't be sad to see him go and I think UNC fans have themselves another Mac Brown. He is hungry for the competition and he can take a job where he is #1 at the school.

Everybody is affected by this economy....
Wed, 10/29/2008 - 15:33 — UNCAlumnusEven athletic programs and "booster" clubs. If Tenn's is anything like UNC's it's stock heavy. I have not doubt that if UNC really wanted to keep Davis, there is a number Tenn. just couldn't match. Just look at their athletic endowments. UNC's is almost twice that of Tenn's.
Empty words
Wed, 10/29/2008 - 12:13 — JPDOhioIf I remember correctly, Butch told his players at UM that he was staying, just before he bolted for the Browns. My guess is that he has no plans to leave any time soon, but never say never, except when you say never believe anything a sports agent says.
It's one thing going to the NFL...
Thu, 10/30/2008 - 18:59 — UNCAlumnusI'll agree Tenn and even Clemson are more prestigious than UNC. I do think the coffers at UNC are deeper than those at the other two schools. It's just a matter of whether or not UNC would spend the money if the need were to arise.
Butch going to the Browns was Butch going back to the NFL as a head man. Every big time college coach wonders about that. He scratched the itch, and then took the boot.
idk..
Wed, 10/29/2008 - 07:56 — TarHeelFan05you know.., after hearing this it doesnt really make me feel any more secure about the situation...
ive seen many coaches/agents say things like this and then the next thing you know thier gone..
I sure hope Butch Davis does stick around Chapel Hill for a while. He has really turned this program around. Now Carolina fans can actually get up and ready for football seasons unlike past seasons. Lets just hope the good work continues and the program continues to rise..
GO HEELS!

Tue, 10/28/2008 - 23:18 — george32i hope butch is more ready to settle down than saban, another of sexton'shigh profile clients. what is scary is how well carolina is doing so quickly (except compared to alabama) and tenn, like the other ut, has an awfully big budget if they decide they really want davis.
What else needs to be said,
Tue, 10/28/2008 - 21:46 — Rankman (not verified)What else needs to be said, if his agent say's he is staying in chapel hill, he's staying in chapel hill. An agent wouldn't purposely be so vague regarding the status/best interest of their client, would they? Nice caveat by saying the coach will have the make the final decision. The agent was right in the fact regarding the level of competition in the SEC vs the ACC.
More to life at his stage
Tue, 10/28/2008 - 20:30 — Anonymous (not verified)I think Butch Davis is at the stage in his life where he realizes there is more to life than continuously climbing some kind of coaching ladder. Happiness and satisfaction has value as does money. UNC is a relatively low stress coaching job (given its recent history) and the university has enough draw to let him field a competitive team every year.
Take some time off every year, play golf and enjoy what this area has to offer.

Tue, 10/28/2008 - 18:20 — gvillegatrnot to mention there would have to be some sort of conflict of interest if Davis took the UT job after Fat Phil gets the ax.
Read that earlier with a nice grin...
Tue, 10/28/2008 - 15:03 — UNCAlumnusI think also, Sexton is poopooing the ACC on behalf of the SEC. He doesn't want to slight the level of competition in the SEC. That would make his other client, Nick Saban, not look as super human. Also, Sexton represents Fulmer of Tennessee. I listen to a weekly radio bit with Sexton on a Memphis Station via the internet. Today, he refuted reports that he was in Knoxville. He was in Birmingham for quite a while. No doubt he was in Knoxville last Sat. night to see his clients' teams play. He said earlier that Davis "would not be interested in Tennessee". That's enough for me. I think Davis will be at UNC for quite a while. He can take this program higher than it's ever been before.
Sweet
