ACC making progress in football

It wasn't great but it was better. After the 2008 college football season, the ACC can at least claim progress.
While the SEC won its third straight national title, the ACC can claim more wins (17) against teams from the Bowl Championship Series than the SEC or any of the other major conference during the 2008 season.
The ACC went 17-14 against teams from the six BCS conferences and Notre Dame, despite a 2-6 bowl record in the group. The '08 record is up from 13-16 in '07 and 6-16 in '06.
The ACC went 6-6 against the SEC and also broke even with the Big Ten (1-1). It had a winning record against the Big 12 (4-1) and losing records against the Big East (3-4) and Pac-10 (1-2).
The Big East (11-9) had the best winning percentage (.550) amongst BCS conferences, edging the ACC (.548). (Solid bowl work, UNC and N.C. State.)
The Big Ten (7-13) was the only BCS conference with a losing record against its brethren. A 1-6 bowl record didn't help.
The Pac-10 (7-9) was the only BCS conference to have a losing record against the other five Division I-A conferences. A 2-5 record against the Mountain West didn't help (hooray, Utah fans!)
And, finally, to get back to (settle?) a point from August, teams from the BCS went 50-0 against Division I-AA teams.

ACC Standing In BCS Conferences
Fri, 01/16/2009 - 10:58 — Wampum2009 is the year in which the ACC will rise and shine in college football. All of its teams - and I do mean all - will be greatly improved over 2008 which will make for exciting matchups within, as well as out of, its conference. This should be the year all sports scribes wil be praising, and not bashing, this league and it's long overdue.
